Yes Sirs and Madams, you read the title correctly.
I am offering a free complete JPN copy of Jack Bros. I have donated a lot to PVB, and also tried to help out folks here when I can.
You need to meet 2 requirements:
1. Gain the “10+ ratings” batch by rating at least 10 commercial or homebrew games or demos.
2. As well, I would like you to make a new contribution to this site. Could be a review, could be a new top high-score, could be a new scan the site doesn’t have, could be a monetary donation, …or could just be a notable VB related picture of, say, your cat playing VB. Your contribution is your choice π
I will pick the judges.
The contest will last until we reach at least 10 participants. All members new and old will be welcome.
The prize includes 1 complete boxed copy of Jack Bros, with free USPS Priority shipping and delivery confirmation within the USA. “Snail-mail” First class postage will be offered for international members.
A runner up prize will be a loose copy of Nester’s Funky Bowling.
So… get to it! Rock on guys n’ gals!
EDIT: Rules updated (1st requirement changed)
EDIT: Rules updated (deadline)
contest question: if I can submit something random like a picture of a cat playing the VB, could my drawings that are VB-related count as a contribution too? I know you said what to contribute is my choice but I can’t draw Chalvo that well!
as for my friends/peers at Planet Virtual Boy; It’d feel awkward to just make a “top 10 best people” list! not to mention, ALL of you (at least I’d hope so) appreciate the Virtual Boy so thats great in my book π
and in response to “why do you deserve this game?” …anything I’d say would sound like Wario! “WA-HA-HA! all 33 VB games will be MINE!” heres something that sounds nicer: …I’m giving my VB the gift of JACK BROS! (or Nester’s Funky Bowling)
more cheesy text: I can show my VB how much I love it with yet another game in my collection… after all, Virtual day is almost here! er, Valentines I mean!
*end of yet another crazy post brought to you by gunpeiyokoifan here*
Awesome! I’ve already got an idea for my contribution and will be starting work on it soon.
meh, I fianally contributed with the pawn start virtual boy video after being memember here sinc 2007 and now you ask for yet another one -_-

You will put the game up for auction , I think is better than offering a free game . If we bid to get Jack Bros , you’ll donate the maximun bid to PlanetVB . What’s your opinion about this? You will open a new topic to start the auction.
VJockey, RPack and me have been picked to be the judges for this neat little contest. Please note that we have changed the first requrement to help our database grow a bit more. Good luck, we are looking to your contributions. π
20 (or more) ratings? ok *counts how many games I have that I could play* …I only have 10 games and I’d rather play VB games (this goes for homebrew games too) on the actual hardware and I don’t have a Flashboy π
(oh well, good luck to everyone else entering this contest!)
Seems like this will force through some ratings on a bunch of games that haven’t been properly tested, there’s only 22 titles, I guess running them in emulation will give some idea though.
Luckily I already have a one complete JPN Jack Bros but good luck to you other people.
However, as I have been trying out a few new games the last days I can at least add a few ratings. π
Nice initiative anyway even if it’s a little odd competition rules.
EDIT: Aha, included are also the homebrews and demos…

Looks like I’m out of the running before I even had my entry completed. π I only have 4 games and couldn’t even properly rate them atm anyway since I’m still waiting on my virtual boy displays to be delivered after being repaired by TheForce81. I’m actually starting to get kind of nervous that they may have been lost while being shipped as they are taking a really long time to arrive. π Anyway, I’ll continue with what I was going to submit even though I no longer have a chance as my little project is more then half way done and I think its pretty cool IMO.
I submitted a new time for Wario Land. I could probably shave down a few more minutes, but it would be tough.
I wouldn’t mind participating as a judge and therefor of course withdraw from being able to win anything. I have enough VB stuff now π
Honkey, I sent you a mail earlier today. If they haven’t arrived by tuesday next week I will go to the post office and let them pay for it. Fortunately I have a spare set of soldered screens laying here, so I will send them in when (if it is needed of course) I get compensated by the post office.

Oh wow!!! Thank you so much!!! π π π But here is to hoping they end up arriving safe and sound soon.
Here is what I was planning on submitting for my entry for the contribution portion before the rule change. Its a Red Alarm / VB inspired skin for the Lamborghini ReventΓ³n in Forza 3. I know its not much of a contribution. I love the wire frame look in Red Alarm and the ReventΓ³n’s super angular design made me wonder what it would look like rendered on a VB. So I set to work and many hours and 483 decals later I have this. π I’m not sure or not if I’m going to keep the big Nintendo logo or not. To me it kind of looks a little out of place with the rest of the car, so I may either shrink it down and stick it someone where not as noticeable or delete it all together.
I was thinking I would make it like an exclusive thing for members on this site. If you have Forza 3, want this skin and have a ReventΓ³n in the game just let me know and I’ll stick the serial number of your VB on the nose and on the back and put it up on my storefront for you to download for free. I could also put user names on the cars but I think just having the serial number would look cooler. The pictures don’t do it justice as they for whatever reason are really washed out and blurry. The real thing is much darker black, and brighter red with very sharp clear lines. That or possibly its time for me to adjust my monitors color settings. π

Hah! Very cool!
BTW, requirement lowered to 10+ ratings. Don’t forget you can also rate homebrew games on the emulator. π

Awesome! Looks like I need to look into figuring out emulation. Is it hard to set up and run? I’ve no experience with emulators beyond one I run for old MS-DOS games.
Update: Since there’s not many entries yet, we decided to run the contest until we get at least 10 people participating. So… come on! π
*Crickets chirping*
Sure would love for somebody to win these games. π

I’m doing my best but I can’t figure out how to run the VB emulators, π so I can’t review any other games to meet the requirements. π
It’s not too late is it? I just got my first Virtual Boy and I’d love to give back to the community, especially for a shot at getting another game to play. π

It’s still just sitting in my display case waiting for a new home, So I believe it must still be on. π
