I was wondering if it would be possible to have a sub-forum on hacking existing roms.

A general thread with what programs are currently being used and tips.

But sub forums broken down by game..and with some kind of document that can be updated showing location of different data in the rom. With topics on specific hacks and how it was done.

Also, maybe a sub form on reproductions. The current state..molds on game gases..search for connectors. What games have been reproduced..requests for games to be made. A discussion on costs involved. How too’s ect..

an area dedicated to the hacking of vb roms would be a nice addition. within that area you would make topics for each individual game. making sub forums to the hacking section for each game just seems a little much, it isn’t like we have a thriving vb hacking community (ie: romhacking.net). a few things here and there warrants a sub forum with topics and not much else.

are there plans to take reproductions past the 2 that are currently available? creating an entire section for them seems premature, unless there are plans the general planetvb community is not aware of.

Well, at least a section for each game that can be mapped as far as locations of data. If you put it all into one thread..it would be over-whelming I would think.

Why wouldn’t more repro’s be made ? I love the idea of increasing the vboy’s library. What about the English version of gundam ? or if space squash get’s fully translated..that’s a wonderful game. What about all the home-brews ? blox..blox 2. Thunderstruck’s got a few also. If vb racing ever gets to be a full game..i’d luv to have that one. Maybe virtual-chris would like a virtual-chris collection 🙂 I’m sending out free copys of the faceball proto..and what about faceball: remastered ?

I know there’s a lot more demos then finished games in the home-brew scene..but maybe more will get finished if the coders can get a physical copy of the box to hang on the wall 🙂 I can picture the day when the virtual boy has double the current library. Let’s keep this going.

perhaps a dedicated reproduction service, like the one you guys got going on, will be enough to entice coders to polish and complete VB homebrew. a coding compo with the prize being your finished game on a repro cart would also benefit the vb homebrew scene!

if we had the ability to edit our posts hours, even years later, then the top post of each thread could be kept updated by a moderator. although i’m not sure that is something chris wants for the site. it just seems like it would be far less work then building dedicated areas for each game, hack, translation, reproduction, etc.

I think the wiki should cover ROM hacking. There would be one article for each game, with links to released mods, eg. Benjamin Stevens’ mod for Insmouse. The mods themselves would be posted to the forums (maybe a special “mods” category) so the authors would be able to receive feedback.
