Hi!

I’m a member of a few other game forums (AtariAge, NintendoAge) and I’m not very active there much anymore except to seek advice or help or trade.

I’ve come here for help. I own a complete, cart only, NTSC collection… completed quite recently actually. All of my carts and Virtual Boy are originally owned by me except Jack Bros., which I obtained at a fair price a few weeks ago. I took my Virtual Boy down from my shelf (where it had been sitting for a year) and decided to play through Jack Bros. because it’s the only VB game I’ve never played.

Unfortunately, my Virtual Boy seems to have suffered the same fate as many Virtual Boys…. scrambled graphics. My best guess is that the flat flex cable connecting to the display PCB has become unstuck. I have a backup VB, but a line of pixels is out on the left eye. Nothing too bad but it does annoy me.

So the question I pose is can anyone help me repair the PCB boards? I possess no skill at soldering and I’d love to have them soldered back together for a permanent fix. If I can mail these to anybody who is skilled at soldering these boards, I would jump at the opportunity.

So, to be clear, I want to pay somebody who knows exactly what they’re doing to repair two (possibly three) sets of boards.

Can anybody provide me this service?

TheForce81 is your man. He is doing repairs on displays for a small fee. I had him do mine, and haven´t had any problems since. He´s done repairs to quite a few people´s VBs here by now, you can trust him.

Contact him via PM, he´s a member here.

THAT sounds like a dead LED. If that’s the case, the line will be out forever. No amount of soldering can fix that.

how expensive are new led screens for these? a small fortune?

There are no *new* ones of course, but sometimes there are some that pop up on eBay. Of course you don’t know the quality of those until they’re installed…
