Hey dudes, new user here, picked up a VB a few days ago, have wanted to play Wario Land for a long time and it hasn’t disappointed me. What has is that there aren’t more games like it on the VB.I only discovered today that there are homebrews for the VB, so will have to save some cash and order the flash cart. Mariokart looks impressive!

Stumbled across this site while googling, and looks like the place to get help and info! I collect mainly for the Atari 2600, but like all retro gamers I have a fair few consoles. I use this username on Atariage and Nintendoage also, so may have corresponded with some of you there.

Talk soon!

Welcome! This is a great place for everything Virtual Boy!

And you’re in luck, you’ve gotten your VB right before the Virtual Fall coding competition ends. If you manage to get that Flashboy there will be new Homebrew to try out at the end of the month!

Nice to have you here πŸ™‚

You know about the flashboy..if you want some suggestions on some games to try..just ask. Off the top of my head..
Bound high, faceball, fishbone, vb racing, blox, hyper fighting, hunter..puuh you have some games to try πŸ™‚

Also, if you haven’t read about it…learn about the glitchy display issues and how to fix them.

Also, speedyink is totally correct..great time to join. A few more weeks and we’ll see what people have been working on :).

Great stumble. There is no better place for the Virtual Boy. Everything you could ever want to know about it has been collected here. Homebrew releases are announced here. The community is diversified, everything from collector perspectives to vb-related electronics discussions go on here.

A FlashBoy+ is a must own. Playing translations, hacks, and homebrew on actual hardware is the way to go.

What have you picked up so far? Just a VB and Wario? Did you get the AC Adapter, a US VB, any cool collectibles?

Enjoy your stay.

Thanks for the welcomes! Liking the place already haha!!

I got a VB, the cousin got it cheap because it wasn’t working and fixed the screen so it’s now 100%, and I think 6 or 7 loose carts, including Waterworld so happy days there. I do want to get a tap adapter so I don’t have to pump the thing with batteries all the time, that’s how I found planetvb, I was looking for info on the adapter, I’m gonna have to check where my vb is from so I order the right one.

Owning a VB is one of those things I thought I would never have, so I’m fairly delighted to have it. Next up, a Vectrex!

If you want reviews, I’ve got you covered.

Nice splash page!:-)

What they all said…welcome to the site, it’s a great time to join! I arrived in August and am hooked, this place is a great collection of knowledge for all your VB gaming needs. Are you the first user from Ireland??

Regarding the AC adapter tap- I think all VBs are compatible with either the US or Japanese taps…it’s just the actual SNES adapter you plug into it that matters (and how it handles the power supply available in your region). The US AC adapter won’t fit into the JP tap. Someone else correct me if I’m wrong πŸ™‚

Either way, you can usually buy the tap with or without AC adapter for ~$20 on eBay.

I would have to agree..the best way is to get a tap and whatever snes adapter works over there.

The US tap uses the US Snes adapter, and as far as I know the JP tap uses a JP Super Famicom adapter. I tried plugging in my japanese tap power cord into my US SNES…not the same.

don’t quote me on this because i haven’t researched this fully, but according to this site you can use the following…

US tap – 9V adapter (identical to the NES and SNES)
JP tap – NES/FC or SNES/SFC AC Adapter

i know my snes adapter does not fit in my JP tap, so i’m not sure why the site has that information. like i said, don’t quote me on it, do your own research.

i also recall reading something about using a sega master system adapter on the JP tap.

US snes power adaptor only works with the US tap.
Jap snes power adaptor only work with Jap tap.

If your in the UK the mega drive 1 power adaptor works with the Jap tap.

Just remember where ever you are the VB likes 9vdc.

Hope this helps a little

Forgive my ignorance, had a look at my vb last night and there’s a sticker in japanese on it, does that definitely make it a jap vb? Will the serial number help verify where it came from? Thanks!
