Last year I went to a gaming convention in my state and brought the Virtual Girl to have it signed by some of the YouTube celebrities that were attending. It wound up being a hit with them and the convention goers alike so I decided I would bring it again. This year, I teamed up with the founder of the convention to showcase the Virtual Boy & Virtual Girl with copies of Hyper Fighting and the new link cable made by Kevin (Mellott124) in the free-play area.

It was on display and free-play from 9 September to 10 September and according to the convention guy, it was a huge hit with everyone. It was many of the convention goers’ first time ever playing one and they all loved it and thought it was really cool. It looks like we all made a great impression on gamers regarding our beloved console.

I had a few more YouTube celebrities sign it this year and overall I couldn’t be happier with how much fun people had playing it and how much fun I had at the convention. Below are pictures I took of people I saw playing the VB and also below is the link to the walkthrough of the convention.

This is my second year going and next year will be at an even larger venue. I can’t wait to bring the Virtual Girl and everything back. Seeing how much fun people were having with it made me so happy.

People were absolutely in love with Hyper Fighting and the link cable. When I told them both were homebrew items, their minds were blown. You should be proud Hyper Fighting team and you too Kevin!

I’m thinking of bringing it to a few other game cons too but those are much later in the year.

Wow, this is so awesome. I applaud you for doing this, it’s exactly the boost the Virtual Boy needed. I mean, how could it not go well, we’re at a time where there is some amazing stuff available for the Virtual Boy. All the homebrewers out there have really done outstanding stuff!

Curious though, how come one stand is inverted and the other not? Looks funky =P

I wish I could have brought you all with me to the event. It was a blast! The reason the one stand is inverted is because it’s a 3rd party replacement stand and unfortunately the way the pins/knubs are set on it, it only allows the system to face one way. I wanna chop off the knubs and fix it but I’ve been too lazy. I was sure to send everyone with questions on the homebrew and the cable over here to the forum. I also had the print out about the forum and the VB which hopefully gets us some new faces.

I really have disdain for Pat the NES punk… But nice work on the show.

There’s definitely moments where I wanna kick Pat in the balls but he’s much better in person. Ian is why I mostly tune in to the shows. There were a bunch of others there too like Adam Koralik, Pete Dorr, GillyTheKid, RewindMike, and a couple others I’m forgetting at the moment.

Next year the event is at a larger venue (and closer to my house, yay!) so I’m expecting even better things next year. You can bet your bottom dollar I’ll be back with the VB/VG too lol

Almost everyone was playing in one of the most uncomfortable positions, sigh. You have to hold the controller behind the VB, so you can rest your elbows on the table instead of relying on your back and neck for support.

Nice to see the VB (and VG heh) getting some love though.
