Saw this earlier. Very intrigued. Idk if I’m the minority here but I’m really hoping it’s not some mobile phone adapter similar to their SmartBoy device.
Uh oh. Those things the light is projecting from are fingertips, complete with fingerprints. Please God, don’t let this announcement have anything to do with mobile phones + Virtual Boy.

Fingertips? Looks like fresnel lenses to me. Still probably mobile phone based.

I was about to write the same.
It is probably a cheap plastic headset in a VB design were you have to put your phone in. When it comes to resolution all the HDphones should be enough to display both eyes without scaling and have 3D
I think they also need to deliver a fitting controller.
There should be also a app containing emulation.
I bet they used code of existing emulators.
Having a proper emulator on the 3DS would be still a much cooler solution.
The Virtual Boy emulator on 3DS project would seem to have died long ago, but it’s good to still hold out hope that it will continue one day. Now that I look at it, I do think this is likely some phone application as well.
