Original Post

Hi there,

I know it is not much, but nevertheless I wanted to share my very small wireframe demo based on VUEngine Studio.
I only started working with VUEngine Studio the last four weeks and had no programming knowledge at all before.

The demo is based on the wireframe stage of the VUEngine showcase project (so all credits for the code go to KR155E and Jorgeche), which I adapted mainly with the help of Jorgeche. I deleted / hid the information text, the header info, commented out lots of things, added houses with fences, a street section, a bus stop, lanterns, a tunnel and a welcome sign. On top of that the rumble pack of Retroonyx is supported. It vibrates when moving forwards, backwards or sidewards.
The demo is quite demanding for the VIP, so some houses flicker or it can even crash completely when too many wireframes are shown at once.
But I did not want to reduce the view distance or use interlaced wireframes because in my opinion this impairs the scenery feel.

The controls are shown in the bottom right corner:
– Select for showing some detailed information on camera position, wireframes and direct draw
– Left D-Pad: fowards, backwards, rotate left and right
– Right D-Pad: strafe left and right, rotate up and down (to be used carefully).

The vb-file is quite big (2 MB) because all other stages of the original VUEngine showcase project are still in there, I did not want to go through the hassle of deleting everything ending up crashing my demo.

What I´d like to have in a future release:
– stable wireframes (possibly not realistic)
– background music.

That is all for now, I hope one or another has 2 minutes fun playing this very tiny demo via flashcart.

PS: if someone can create a HF32 BW label, this would be really great!
PS 2: the VB-file propably needs to be renamed, but I wanted to keep today´s date to keep track on the history.

Not sure why I can only add two attachments, I hope it works now. The vb-file should have been added to this post.

Looks very nice Abarth – i still think this smells of sim of some sort – either racing or a flight simulator! Keep it going 🙂

Thank you for the kind words UnumSolum.
I´ll see what I can do. Since I do not really know to how to code I think this will turn out to be something like a “walking simulator”. To enjoy the scenery and to relax.

Here are 2 updated versions which run better.
They were created by Jorgeche based on my wireframe entities.

Why don’t you turn this game into a spy simulator with 3D sprites?

I have not had any experience with 3d sprites yet.

That’s where my Course “Drawing in Depth” comes in. I have a whole course of 25 chapters that teach how to do what I have done in my 3 games that V.OR.T.E.C.H.S. is working on. and it’s very affordable for hobbyists.

Good luck with your project! I and the rest of the PVB members are expecting great things from what we have seen so far!

Okay, thanks for the link, I will think about it.

Thanks! But I hope that the hopes are not too high. As I said multiple times before I can only add new objects to the wireframe stage. I can not add more functionalities to this world, at least not without any help. I have no clue in which direction all this goes.

Here is an updated version 0.3 with these changes:
– left curve added after tunnel
– emergency exit added to tunnel
– street added after left curve
– new VUEngine core and plugin as well as showcase project from Jorgeche implemented (as of 12-12-2024))
– implemented the settings for streaming and interlacing for the wireframes as proposed by Jorgeche
– power poles after the left curve
– tunnel and street entity reworked with shorter meshes
– power cables between the power poles
– watertower added

Controls are the same like in my first post.

Again, be careful: the game is far from running perfect, it crashes and slows down.
I tried several streaming, view distance and interlacing settings but I don´t get it better.
The watertower also tends to disappear suddenly.

PS: I still hope someone can do a HF32 label, that would be really neat!

As like above only 2 attachments are visible, that is why I post this here again.

Fixed the attachment styles so that they all show up now.

The scenery looks fantastic!

Thank you very much 🙂

I have a few more ideas to “complete” the scenery.

I am not sure though how to add additional “real” gaming content to it.
Also I hope that someone (Jorgeche?) can implement (or show me how to do) collision layers, so that the camera does not protrude things.
