go to the bottom for new info on case. ive released the data on the case. i just want your opinion.
as you all know ive been fixing virtual boys for nearly 3 years now via solder fix with every one being very happy with my work. a few months ago a guy bought my repair for 6 consoles to be fixed. everything went well and he said that he had more consoles so i contacted him via email on paypal and said i can do it cheaper out side of ebay.
So he sent me another 12 consoles worth of displays (24 in all) between all the repairs i get it took me 1 and 1/2 months to fix them all and send them back. he contacted me a few days later and said 9 of the 24 displays were missing. i was very shocked to hear this cause i know for a fact i pack all 24 back in the box before i return. and of course this all happens wile im on a 5 week vacation so there was nothing i could do at that moment so i told him to file a claim with fedex as they were insured for 1200 dollars. he did.
once i got home he said he required a wavier to sign my right for the claim to him. i of course didnt know how to do that i didnt know if i needed a form or if i simply wrote out a paper saying the claim rights are his. once i had found out how to release my right (had to contact the post office since the internet was no help) the guy opened a claim against my paypal and said to me the fedex said it wasnt insured. wanting a full refund of 500 dollars and a 25 dollar claim (cause i had sold him a ribbon plus repair for one display that was not fixable.) i cleared up the 25 dollar claim by proving he had the replacement. it was different looking (had extra tape on it) than the rest and he sent a picture of them all to me showing some were missing.
however the 500 dollar one is still in review by paypal. i caught him up in a few lies one is they claimed i took 3 months when i took 1 1/2 months to do the repair. the other is he said it wasnt insured when i have the receipt showing that it was indeed insured.
this is also how i found out that paypal has a ridiculous return window for buyers of 6 months. yeah 6 months!
he also contacted me to say he will drop the paypal claim if he wins the fedex. (black mail) the problem is i cant give him the waiver now that he opened this case against me cause if i do he will get both claims. i cant trust that he will close the claim once i give his the waiver i have written a huge report to paypal that basicly ive never had a claim in the 16 years ive been with paypal and my ebay is 100% on feedback and that this guy is full of crap.
one of two things happened here either hes got them all and is lieing that hes missing some just to get his money back or ive read the fedex will open and check random packages and because the displays were warped in paper towels and they look just like the packaging that it got left out by accident.
so anyways that about it. So what do you all think about this situation?
because of all this i might never do any more than 2 console per person outside of ebay. and i might be closing my paypal to use another company for money. aNY SURJECTIONS?
NEW____________________________________________
Alight paypal just decided in the favor of the buyer to give back my 487 dollars due to insufficient data from my side (which is bull crap) the guy has gotten my service wrongfully for free which took me 1 and 1/2 months to repair 24 displays (with all the other repairs i get in between too) this is btw with a discount. (around 37.50 dollars per pair) since he had so many. i will be repealing the case with the black mail message he sent hoping that i can reverse the decision. here the case details you decide if my response to the claim was insufficient or not. the a pdf including the files for the case
i called paypal today found out he filed a police report which basically means he wins no matter what evidence i submitted. this is so incredibly corrupt its not funny…. im going to take this to social media and i’ll also be filing a police report myself. maybe with a little pressure from the public i can get some justice.

Sorry you’re having this experience. One thing to know is that PayPal and eBay will both screw you in a heartbeat. They almost always side with the buyer. I just had a guy pull something similar with a GPU. He even took it apart and I could show proof. I even had an email from the guy admitting fraud towards the end. Didn’t matter. He got his money back.
Very, very sad to hear something awful like that happening to you, especially after just giving me some great info on my virtual boy’s problem. This is a community I know is full of so many talented, honest, good-hearted, like-minded individuals all sharing an incredible amount of passion and dedication for this underappreciated console, so it’s incredibly disheartening to hear how selfish a couple individuals can be, and how stressful dealing with them can be.
To me it definitely sounds like a dishonest person, no one would refuse to believe a respected reputable member of the community, and start trying to lie if fedex actually screwed up. Someone would only attempt that with the malicious intent to screw the other person over. If fedex did indeed mess up, they might not necessarily work with the buyer, possibly for the fear they might be getting screwed over by a dishonest seller (dealt with a couple of those myself) but they would be as honest as possible, knowing they did nothing wrong. All evidence points to this person trying to scam you, no doubt.
I would try to call both ebay and paypal to talk to a human about this, since there’s a lot to unpack here (and reasoning with an automated service-robot won’t go well) I wish I knew more about this sort of thing, but that’s all I can suggest, really sorry this happened to you.

That really sucks, also sorry you had to deal with such a sub-human. :\ Sadly I don’t have much more to add than that, but just wanted to share some sympathy.
Though, I’m also glad to hear it isn’t deterring you from continuing to repair systems. Definitely an amazing service to offer to the good members of the community. And good idea on limiting the number of consoles you’ll take at a time and sticking to a specific place to conduct business.

ive actually had good luck with ebay as a seller. but i rarely have issues on ebay. i crammed so much detail and proof in the case i ran out of characters and had to shorten it. a few lies looks bad on his end. im not going down with out a fight. wish me luck!

there will likely be some small changes i might not be accepting any more than 2 consoles per person after this cause i cant afford to lose 500 like that. i dont make a lot as is. im also going to record a video of packing the item back up with a special mark on the box and tape proofing i didn’t lose it just to be safe.
ive already done this with a game i sold recently for 600 dollars.

tbh the world is full of these type of people. i surprised this hasnt happened earlier. the VB community is usually fine (well accept for one that refused to pay me for something else i had found wrong with his console i had fixed) but ive avoided anything beyond ebay just cause there alot of flakes out there like facebook for example. amazingly ive never had an issue on ebay yet. the case is still being reviwed so no results yet. but if he wins i will apeal their decision with the black mail message he sent.

That’s horrible, but doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll win. With the evidence you have against him, you definitely have a case for yourself, and I’ll gladly support you in this case. Getting the law is probably the best thing you can do too, so you’ll have the same edge he does. It just sucks that you have to deal with all of this, it only takes one jerk to ruin it for everybody…
Unfortunately, the videogame hobby is filled with unscrupulous people. Years ago, I sold a very rare Dreamcast prototype game on ebay. It required a special DC boot disc, which went with it in the auction. WIthout the boot disc, it was pretty much worthless. A guy bought it, then wrote to me a couple of days after he received it to plead that he couldn’t really afford it, and asked me to let him return it for a refund. He was relentless. But I knew the guy’s rep – he had clearly copied it, and was trying to defraud me. I declined.
He later listed the game on ebay, but wasn’t including the boot disc, and failed to mention that the game woudn’t run without it. What a sleazebag.
Unfortunately, too many of us have stories like that.
oK ive got some good news! after months of battle and late police reports and it appears all hope was lost. i called paypal to prove i filed a police report via scan sent via their complaint email. i needed to verify that they got the notice that police report was filed but that it wouldn’t be available for 60 days due to being backed up.
i called and a supervisor named Scott took my call. i explained why i was calling and also reiterated my situation to him. so he read my complaint on paypal and told me to hold. about 5 minutes later he returned and told me he returned my lost 487 dollars. it was nothing short of a freaking miracle in my eyes. months of fighting and i finally connect to someone that took care of the issue in 5 minutes! 5 minutes! let that sink in. my faith has been restored for paypal that there are some people that arnt reading a script and actually give a crap about ones situation!
he then went on to explain that i should have won the case to begin with and it was indeed wronged in this situation. unfortunately the scammer still got the money, it was paypal that refunded me. i told the guy i could kiss his hand for actually caring about my issue 😛 So Scott, you are the man!!! More people like him need to exist.
So now that that’s finished i don’t need to stress about it anymore but let this be warning to all. scammers are out there, so you better do as much as you can to protect yourself! ive been recording the things i pack via camera and no longer do over roughly 100 dollar transaction on paypal.
Verry happy for you that you got your money back.
I had also very good experiences with PayPal customer service
I am curious if this story will continue. Paypal siding with you looks good in your behalf. I hope you use that momentum and call a lawyer to go after this person who tried to defraud you.

Great idea in theory, but speaking as a lawyer, totally impractical. He can’t personally pursue criminal charges against the guy (that’s up to police or some other state entity), he can only file a civil action. But since he got his money back, the courts would say the case is moot.
Now, if ebay wants to file a civil action against the guy, they can – they’re the ones who lost money, in the end.

its not worth it. the guy at paypal said he would be look in to see if this guy has done this before. so they will check him out.
