There’s something I’ve been wondering about my virtual boy’s display that im not too sure about. It’s also hard to explain. There is a small black horizontal line that appears on the left screen of my V-Boy. The weird thing is that i dont think its the horizontal line glitch. I think it’s a scratch inside the machine. The reason i think this is because if i move my head, the scratch also “moves” and isn’t always crossing the same section in the LED display. Also, it doesn’t cross the entire screen, just a bit on the right. If it’s a scratch, then it isn’t on the red lenses on the outside of the system because i checked. Has this ever happened to anyone else and if so, how does it get scratched on the inside? (if that’s even what it is)

You say black line, but isn’t it more like a smudge? This normally is a really small smudge on either the lens or the mirrors. I once had it and got rid of it by cleaning them both with a q-tip.

It doesn’t seem like a smudge, but I’m pretty sure it’s inside the console. It doesn’t really affect gameplay, it’s just a little distracting. But it is strange to think that a scratch got inside the system. Because i’m pretty sure that’s what it is. It doesn’t affect anything else in anyway

i have two black lines in my right eye (left optics) that moves as i move, gets smaller as i pull away, larger as i move closer, etc. it is not a scratch on the red lens as far as i can tell. there was another thread similar to this one where RP mentioned that it could be a tiny bit of dust or something on the mirror. i’ve never opened it up to confirm, as it really doesn’t bother me all that much.

This is almost certainly a speck on the mirror. It doesn’t seem like it, but there are actually quite a few of ways dust can enter the VB.

Another possibility is an age-induced defect in the lens. Not a scratch in the surface, but a hairline crack in the lens itself. This affects clear polystyrene items as they age. It can be seen in old CD “Jewel” cases, for example. It essentially makes a “facet” inside the plastic, perpendicular to the front and back surfaces, that acts as a mirror. Maybe there’s some way of restoring the integrity of the plastic, perhaps by heating it.

Lester Knight seems to have the same thing I do. But that’s interesting. And why I guess it could be dust or something like that because I’ve seen stuff like that in other consoles. It just seems weird since it’s like a perfect line rather than dusty shaped stuff. But I guess it could also be that hairline crack idea.

Well, I have experienced this problem and managed to get rid of it by cleaning the lenses and mirrors. So, I think it is a tiny smudge, speck if you like, that is the culprit here.

The biggest challange here is to clean the mirrors/lenses without leaving other traces of stuff behind.
