I recently started collecting these kinds of games after watching some of VectrexRoli’s videos on youtube. I’m only about 3 weeks in, and I already have 5 of them. I plan to collect a bunch of these, as they are really fun to play and are a true blast from the past.
Oddly, I’ve never heard of or played a lot of these games growing up, but they still gave me this strong nostalgic euphoria…
I’m going to collect these only if they are in excellent condition with the manuals and boxes, wich means I’m going to have to buy some more shelves to display them all (my wife is pissed and wants a word with VectrexRoli’s wife :D).
Here, I’ll post some of my favorite ones, along with the box art and manuals and a game-play image. Starting with…
Epoch’s Invader From Space. This game is very well-designed and the actual game-play is on point. Very simple, but plays what it’s supposed to play, and does a really good job.

I’m actually in the process of designing a little arcade room for all of my Basic Fun mini arcade cabinets, and I’m trying to find other mini arcade games that would fit nicely (be at the right scale and look and feel) in the room to go along with the arcade cabinets. I recently scored a classic mini pool table from the ’80s off of ebay, which should look nice in my mini arcade room and go along nicely with the cabinets. Since the cabinets are 5.25 inches tall, and real arcade cabinets are about 6 feet tall, I figured that a mini pool table about 8 inches long would be the proper scale to represent a 9-foot long pool table to go along with my represented 6-feet tall arcade cabinets. Sure enough, ebay had just the thing for me! Even the color looks like it’ll match the cabinets. I’m now trying to find other mini arcade games that would work, but so far no luck. I’m hoping to find mini pinball machines and skee ball machines that would be the right scale and appearance, but I can’t find any at the moment.
Below isn’t the actual Mini Arcade Room that I envision, but it gives an idea of what it might look like. I would hope to design my own carpeting and wallpaper for the mini room, and of course I still need to get little figures to be playing the video games as well as pool, and whatever else I can add to it in the future.
Interestingly enough, the back of the box for the Mini Action Pool Table indicates that it was originally marketed by Wal-Mart, just like the recently released arcade cabinets. I can’t find a copyright date on the box, but the seller indicated that it was originally sold back in the 1980’s, so it is nice that Wal-Mart, all these years later, has also had mini arcade cabinets made, which really go along nicely with the mini pool table.
I’ve also decided to post a pic of my Basic Fun Blister Pack collection. Although these don’t look right in my mini arcade room, boy are they a lot of fun to play.

Alien Attack is definitely on my “to buy” list of VFD games.
One VFD game that I highly recommend for anyone, is Astro Thunder (second picture). I’m telling ya, check out some videos of this game on youtube, this little machine works its ass off to keep you entertained, and does an amazing job with its multiple levels and game speeds. If anyone is only going to have 1 VFD game in their collection…let it be this one!

Looking good! That pool table really sets things off there, it really is perfect.

Yeah, and they actually have better sound than the Wal-Mart ones.
Here’s a neat lil tabletop that I found. Being a horror fan and a virtual fan, this kind of represents both of those with the theme and the color scheme.

Hey guys, check this out!
It’s a portable mini computer game that plays “The Oregon Trail” (remember that game?!) on a unit designed to look like an old Macintosh computer! It’s pretty cool, and it is manufactured by Basic Fun, the same company that has been making all the little mini Arcade Classics seen in this thread. But unlike the Arcade Classics that are exclusive to WalMart, this one is exclusive only to Target (according to the front of the box). Just thought to share it here.
These must be selling pretty good, since it was the last one on the shelf at my local Target. So if you want one, then go get one NOW… before you die of dysentery! 😝
Hm…looks like Ms. Pac Man could be part of the new spring release of Arcade Classics.
Hopefully WAl-Mart gets one with the full-color LCD screen.
