When Faceball Remastered was released I made Uncle Tusk sent one copy to James Rolfe aka the Angry Video Game Nerd. Ever since I’ve been checking if I could see it in the background. Today I finally saw it getting kicked of the shelf π

No respect… I really hate AVGN.
Well, I think there is a general problem with negative/rude game reviews. They are often lacking solid research in favor of harsh comments about the the less well designed aspects of a game. People are being very rude these days when they criticize the work of others, often in the hopes to draw attention. I know this first hand from reading comments about my games on other sites.
However, I think it is important to differentiate between a show that is designed to entertain and an actual game review. The shows of James Rolfe obviously belong to the first category. I totally understand if you don’t like them. It’s not easy to watch someone talking shit about something you like even if you know that the person is just trying to be funny.
I did sent the game to James because I like watching his shows. I didn’t expect him to play/review the game or treat it like a treasure. I actually like it when throws his stuff around because that’s the way we would treat games when I was a kid (I’m not much of a collector). Seeing him throw Faceball of that shelf was pretty funny for me.
AVGN is a character just for the ‘show’, nothing wrong with that. It’s the dumb ass people that think that’s actually who James is that are the problem.

I don’t believe he makes up all his opinions for AVGN, I think what AVGN says is what James Rolfe thinks and believes, only exaggerated for comedic effect. Of course people tend to remember the bad words and bad stuff he says more because they stand out more and often are funny. When he said most of the VB games are okay, that’s not what people remember, they remember how it’s a “piece of shit” etc.
Since he’s so huge and a lot of people listen to him and just take his opinion without checking for themselves I think he’s done some unwitting damage to the VB’s reputation which I don’t like. But I blame the people who just take his (swear-)word on it instead of checking out the VB themselves more.
When it comes to research he does have a problem, I mean remember the Power Glove episode? I own one and from his video it was quite apparent he didn’t calibrate it correctly, either for comedic effect or because he didn’t know how to do it, but the result was people watch that and go “oh my god the power glove is worthless and doesn’t work in the slightest” when that’s just not true (although it’s not a good controller by any means, it CAN work almost decently if handled right).
Again, I still think the problem lies with the viewer. His videos are not reviews at all, it’s just about a nerd who gets unusually angry at video games.
He’s just creating a means of entertainment. It’s the people who take everything so seriously that are the issue. Most of them are probably just kids that get way into Youtubers, like kids tend to do with things. Makes me glad I grew up in a different time.. it all just seems so stupid.
Ha. That is pretty cool!
I find the AVGN character extremely entertaining. I don’t allow myself to get emotionally involved in other people’s opinions. I keep that mind set when I watch his vids. I might not always agree with what he says but I always enjoy the videos.

I know that’s not really him but people base their opinions on Videogames from what he says. This generation would rather use the concept of other people rather then actually try something out to see if they like it.
Thusly because of this fact and others, I hate AVGN. The charactor is just pure awful, but James’ gameplay videos are decent.
It all comes down to “don’t judge a book by its cover”. Some of the “bad” games people swear by aren’t that bad or above average, some even legitimately good. I like AVGN, sure its crude humor but it makes me laugh because I know i’ve gotten angry and called a game “a flying f**k heap” or “piece of dog s**t” thrown a controller down on the ground. He takes a bit farther than most would but its comedy show. Take it with a grain of salt. His non-AVGN stuff is pretty cool too.
It was really cool to see it on the shelf. Maybe he will touch on it on a Mike and James Monday. π
I’m a fan of his videos and always have been. I find his humor like mine and the AVGN’s anger for the games, reminiscent of my own as a child (I have a broken NES controller to prove it). In the beginning I felt like he a was a bit clueless about some things but having watched videos with him and Mike, a lot in the beginning was staged for comedic effect and exaggeration. His opinions on the games and items he reviews aren’t always the same as the AVGN’s on camera opinions.
As far as how he treats his games, he does a mix of props and real things. I don’t treat my collection like a god so it gets rough handled at times. I can’t say I’m any better. I collect to play and enjoy. Damage is all part of the game of using your collection a lot over time.

I doubt. VB games are hard to capture, especially if you play at the same time.

That’s awesome! The first AVGN video game was good enough that I probably would have bought the sequel anyway, but the nod to the Virtual Boy only further ensures that I will pick it up sometime.
