I couldn’t tell if it just said “Buy a SNES and get a VB” or if it also said “Or buy a VB and get a SNES”

While I could understand what was written in the poster itself, I myself had trouble understanding the caption beneath it on the webpage. The sentence on the poster literally reads:

En la compra de un Super Nintendo, gratis un Virtual Boy.
In the purchase of a Super Nintendo, a free Virtual Boy.

The caption sentence, however, reads:

El virtual boy, en las últimas te lo regalaban en la compra de un SNES.

I’m pretty sure that it should be translated as:

The Virtual Boy, in the last ones, they gave it to you in the purchase of an SNES.

I’m just not sure if “en las últimas” should be translated as “in the last ones” or if it could also be understood as “in the end.” I’m also not 100% sure of what that is referring to, but I assume it’s referring to the last times when the Virtual Boy was actually still available in stores for sale, so back in the mid 1990s, but it seems that it could be referring to some other “last ones” as well.

I’m chating away with the Mexican guy who has the magazine and he says that is an Official Club Nintendo magazine . He says he is a Mexican magazine collector and I’m trying to persuade him to scan all VB pages.

I took Spanish in high school for 4 years, so it’s one of the languages that I’m better at translating and understanding. Plus, its sentence structure is very similar to that of English, which, for me, makes it “easier” than many other languages.

It is pretty amazing that such an offer was given back near the end of the Virtual Boy’s time in stores. If I had been presented with such an opportunity, I probably would have bought several SNESes to get the free Virtual Boys and then would have sold all of the SNESes and kept all the Virtual Boys. 🙂
