Chris is tied up with exams for the next 3 months. So, I will be both making and distributing them now.

If you want one, you need to send me a donor cart. This will guarantee you get a cart (a sort of pre-order).

I will be making these on a one-by-one basis, so be prepared to wait at least 2 weeks from the donor cart getting to me and your FlashBoy+ being dispatched.

The package will consist of the cart and USB cable (no box) the new price of $100 (+shipping) reflects this.

Anyway, if you are interested, please Email me at –

Thankyou

Just so you know, Richard, I get requests from people on a fairly regular basis about FlashBoy+ carts (somehow, they seem to find me easier than they find you), and I keep referring them to this old post of yours and telling them that the price that you have listed for them probably has not changed. I will continue to do this unless I hear otherwise from you.

I speak on behalf of the Virtual Boy community, which I’m sure fully agrees with me, when I say that you are awesome for continuing to spend all of the time and energy in making these carts.

Ben, thanks for the referrals.

I will continue to make small batches of the carts as long as folk still want them. I built a few this week while I was waiting for Eric’s connectors to get here (arrived today).

Good to hear! It’s an amazing service you offer this community. 🙂 And the Vectrex community, too! Thank you!

Hey folks. As you can tell I just signed up after finding out about this device. Am I too late to inquire about this cart? I don’t see a year listed with the date on the above posts. I’d just like to see if the price is still the same, and whether we can order from the US or only the UK.

I’m from the US and don’t have any donor carts (hopefully you have some left over). Is there a box/manual included or not?

Richard still makes and sells the FlashBoy+ carts as per his advertisement in the first post of this thread:

http://www.planetvb.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?post_id=13655#forumpost13655

I and VBmills build and sell the rest of the stuff to make your FlashBoy+ complete, as per posts 3 and 4 here:

http://www.planetvb.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?post_id=20188#forumpost20188

As you can see, VBmills primarily distributes to the UK/Europe, and I primarily distribute to the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Ok, so technically I have to chat with both of you. Gotcha. I see from the main forum listing it doesn’t display a year when the post is recent, meaning I’m not reviving a thread from years ago on accident.

I guess I’ll get in touch with him and see how things are going. Thanks. With any luck I’ll be sending you a message too.

Drop Richard an e-mail and inquire about the FB+. He is a really cool guy and 100% trustworthy. =)

I picked up a box awhile back when Chris was still selling them. It sat in a drawer while my FB+ stayed in my VB hardshell case. The box ended up getting a little ruffed up from where it was stored. I don’t regret buying it but now that I have it I don’t really see a need for it. If I displayed my VB games like some of the members here then I feel like the box would have had more meaning for me. But, I don’t collect and display VB stuff, I just game with it.

Already done.

I don’t display a lot either, at least not for things outside of the current gen. The majority of my games are packed away until I wanna play ’em again. The current stuff fills enough shelves. But I guess I have a soft spot for boxes and manuals to make a cart feel complete.

Yeah I wish I could track down a hard shell case for a decent price.

The one I got was for an 80’s camcorder. I picked it up, with the working camera, at a thrift shop for $11. I have plans to cut foam for it but haven’t found any locally and haven’t tried to order any online. The case has an awesome retro 80’s look to it, with raised ridges and a great plastic handle. I went this route because I like doing things for myself. I’d rather pay $100 to make my own case than track down one of the block buster cases. Right now I have my VB wrapped in a soft towel and everything else packed around it. It’s a bit messy in there and that was the reason I didn’t want to pack in a $30 box. In retrospect, it may have been more secure in there.

Hey that’s not a bad idea. Same result without the crazy cost for those ‘official’ cases. Right now my VB is sorta loosely stored in its box. I have the cardboard insert but would have to find a different spot for the games and AC adapter. Of course if I had a case then I wouldn’t be using the box and it would probably be in a lot worse shape.

I wonder if anyone has made a template of the foam from the BB case. That would help create a secure solution, which we could then carve additional space for extra accessories that wouldn’t fit in the BB case.

Excellent. Mine finally arrived today. It’s probably straightforward but is there a basic set of instructions on this forum on how to use it? Or it is as simple as dragging some files onto it and tossing it into the VB?

Now I need to find all those games I was never able to try.

the software used to come on a disk now you can just download it here.
http://www.planetvb.com/modules/hardware/?type=flashcarts&v=fb

be sure to download the padder that DogP so graciously made for us as well. The way it works is simple pad your rom by dragging the icon of the rom to your padder drop it there. the padder will create a padded file called the “name of the file”_pad. Now connect your FlashBoy usb cable to your FlashBoy and to your computer the if connceted the first time your computer will recognize that is is connected. Now drag the padded file over to your FlashBoy icon Once your padded file is on your FlashBoy a small interface will come up which shows your folders select the folder then the padded file then press flash. your FlashBoy will then erase the current file and load the new one it will then say flashing. it may take up to 2 minutes to work. Once done disconnect and insert your FlashBoy just like a regualr cart last but not least. Enjoy your flashboy I know I do.

Geez, it’s a good thing I asked then. For some reason I assumed this would hold more than one game and they just needed to be placed in a folder. Despite owning a huge number of consoles this is the first time I’ve done anything like this. Everything else was simple ROM’s in an emulator so I didn’t need to clean NES carts.

Thanks for the link. I’ll get myself set up first and while it’s crunching the files I’ll set up the VB.

Be sure to save some money for VBSD it is in the works.;)

I have received my FB+ from Minestorm today ! :]

I wanted one for years, Can’t believe i’ve finally got one !

Many thanks to all of you for everything you have done for the VB :]

No problem, glad it got to you OK.

I won’t be making more FlashBoy’s for a while as I’ve got a lot of repro’s to build.

Hey Everyone,

I am a huge Virtual Boy fan and would love to get a copy of the Flashboy. If anyone is willing to make one or sell me one I would really appreciate it.

Please feel free to PM me.

Thanks

Lame, guess I won’t be getting one of these for a while =P

When I’ve done the 100 FaceBall remastered carts, I’ll be back building them. Should take me about a month.

Trust me, it is worth the waiting time.
