Hi there, so first time poster, sorry if this has already been covered numerous times!

I bought a VB in Canada years ago, sick of running through batteries, when friends went over to the US they came back with an adapter and my dad converted it so that it would work in the shaver outlet (not sure whether the 120 or 220 outlet mind, and probably not the safest thing, but hey, it was the 90s right!)

Anyway, fast forward years, I decided to try it out again. But I don’t live anywhere with a shaver output. Because of this,m when I bought a electric toothbrush, I had to get a shaver plug to 3 pin adapter, so I chucked the VB in there, it turned on for a couple of seconds then died. In hindsight not eh brightest thing to do! I’ve just tried putting some batteries in it and nothing happens, no sound, flicker of trying to turn on etc. It might just be the batteries are dead, they’ve been in the house a year or so, but I’m worries I’ve probably fried the insides and it’s now as dead as a dodo…

Anyone had any experience with this / any ideas whether it’s completely dead? Any help much appreciated!

Cheers

Colin

So in other words you plugged it into a 240V socket without a transformer to take it down to 120V?

If that’s the case, then yeah, it probably didn’t like it very much.

Yep, that would be what I did… Not the brightest move! Must try and think about basic electrics before doing stupid things in the future…

Yeah it’s something you have to be careful about, or else it could get expensive replacing things!

Being an American, I have no idea what a “shaver outlet” is. If you did connect a N.A. AC adapter to 220V, you probably put 18V (or twice whatever the adapter lists as output voltage) into the VB. This probably burned out the voltage regulator. As these have been successfully replaced with off-the-shelf components, the VB is probably worth having repaired.
