Hi hi! My name’s Bonehead(ed) Braixen, and I collect games to play them and to look cooler than all of my friends. Who are never impressed and instead laugh at me for buying things like the Virtual Boy when I could buy a VR headset or something. J-joke’s on them, I can use it to impress boys on dating apps, I swear!

Seriously, though, I just got this boi last week and my little brother and I love it. The 3D gimmick is really fun and every game seems to at least use the 3D to add some spice an emulator can’t replicate. Hell, I think the gimmick is used to better effect than pretty much every other Nintendo gimmick in history, especially since everyone except M2 pretty much wasted the potential of the 3DS. I bought one because I’m a pretty big Nintendo R&D1 fan, and three of their best games happen to be on this console. The VB community has always impressed me as well, since you guys seem to be dedicated, friendly, and able to pull off miracles of programming despite a large amount of hate, a small community, and wanting for resources probably as much as Sega Saturn fans.

…also the Virtual Boy was the last Nintendo console I needed for my collection (excluding the Switch), so I guess I have more retro street cred now? It seems to impress people for about 5 seconds until they realize I don’t have a Switch.

Pictures related, my current setup (imnotflexing) and a cute shot of my 10-year old brother playing Galactic Pinball after dinner.

Welcome to Planet Virtual Boy, and nice collection!

I myself like to keep it more retro and, hence, stay a few video game generations behind everybody else, so I’ve still been collecting games for my GameCube and probably won’t get a Switch for another several years.

Oooooh, good luck with that… GC prices are rising about as much as SNES games have been for a while. It’s kind of gross, especially considering how cheap they are in Japan. And I don’t think there’s any good backup loader solution at the moment, unless I missed something. (SDGecko is like barely passable) So no Skies of Arcadia or Fire Emblem for anyone who isn’t rich as heck.

Welcome to the site! Congrats on being cool enough to own a Virtual Boy =P

Looks like you got quite a good collection going on, and even playing the games properly on a CRT (and a PVM it looks like?).

I’m sure you’ll enjoy your stay here, in my opinion the Virtual Boy has the best community surrounding it. There’s so many genuinely good people here.

Welcome to the forum and the community! I think you’re in good hands here. A lot of use enjoy the retro aspect of gaming. Most of my gaming is on a retro system of some sort while my new consoles collect dust. Speaking of collections, you got a pretty sweet setup there!

I gotta agree with Speedyink, the VB community is by far the most welcoming, kind, and generous gaming community I’ve been a part of.

BTW do I sense a Pokemon fan? If so, I’m a bit of a Pokemaniac, myself *high five*

So many complete-in-box GameCube games can be gotten for about $8.00 or less, though, so if I have to pay some more for Skies of Arcadia or Fire Emblem, I’m okay with that. 🙂

I did decide, though, to get Gotcha Force as disc only, which I’ll also do for Cubivore, if I decide to get it at all.
