Original Post

The newspage shows the right menu with the latest updates on forum posts and highscores completely on the bottom and some text just runs out of the screen lol.
I tested it on W7 and WXP and both the same!

To add to that, I will get a new ISP and wanted to update my email address (since my old address will be deleted :/ ) but can’t. Any help would be great on that

Thanks!

1. Use Firefox or Chrome or Safari. All are better than IE.
2. Switch to Gmail and you won’t have to rely on your ISP anymore for email.

Already switched to Gmail, but that still doesn’t solve things. I use IE8 and plan on using it still, so no solutions there πŸ˜›

Are you a developer or something? Why in the world would you want to use IE?

Not really important why, it is my choice. And in IE I see there is a big problem with the format of the site. Though it used to be good until a few months ago that is.

EDIT:
And don’t go saying: FF or Chrome is better! That would not suit a Virtual Boy user, as most new consoles are technically better than VB πŸ˜›

It’s not about “new versus old” it’s about the horrible job Microsoft has done handling Internet Explorer, since back in the day when any novice programmer could create a dangerous exploit in IE. Sorry if I offended you, that wasn’t my intention.

Nahhh, you never offended me. Though IE8 is as secure as FF, might be a bit slower though. The biggest problem with IE is that it still is the most widely used browser and thus the most interesting program to write virusses for.
IE is still used by more than 50% of the internet users, so if PVB would work on IE as it should, it would be a nice advertisement for PVB!

Sadly, this won’t get fixed in IE9 either by the looks of it (I just tried the site in the latest preview version).

It still looks as bad as in IE8 despite all claims that they are now following all the standards :rolleyes

Hm, I once fixed the site to be at least useable in Internet Exploder 8, but didn’t test it in it in a while. Was there an update in the meantime? I will look into it and try to fix it when I have time, too many people still use it after all. But seriously, I am thinking about making the site completely unusable for IE users to force them to switch to a real browser. The site could only show a huge stop sign and a notice that the site doesn’t support their browser. πŸ˜‰ Then again, it would probably be too much trouble to get it to look as I want it to due to MS’s “love” for standards…

Anyways, thank you for letting me know, TheForce81!

Thanks for at least looking at it, though that still doesn’t solve my problem that I want to change my email address. Did I miss an option or is it not possible atm?

Oh, right! You can find it under the “Account” tab in the user bar. Or click here: http://www.planetvb.com/modules/profile/changepass.php

@Vaughanabe13

Exactly. I call it Internet Exploder. For anyone who uses IE, switch to Safari or Firefox. IE has problems.

Only shows the password, and I want to change email. Might be an IE problem, though I find that unlikely.
Thanks again!

To be completely honest, IE has become so outdated that calling the other browsers better is now more of a fact than an opinion… It is lacking many, many different standards that should make modern web pages render properly, and web developers keep having to make hacks and workarounds to make their sites work in just that one browser – all others will usually display the page in the same correct way because they all follow the W3 group’s web standards.

Besides that, Chrome’s got a ton of speed, a ton of stability, and Google puts a lot of effort into making it as secure as possible. Who wouldn’t want to switch to something like that? (Okay, maybe people who like having a ton of features, but IE doesn’t apply there; Firefox does.)

And no, I’m not trying to start a flame war here. πŸ˜‰

In case you’re going to switch…

Switch to Opera. I’m not going to list why, but you should give it a try. (BTW, if you’re comparing features, Opera has lots of them and is very customizable.)

Oh, sorry! For some reason I read “password”. That happens when I reply using only one half of my brain. πŸ˜‰

Anyway, changing the email address is not working, so it’s deactivated. PM me your new address or post it here and I’ll change it for you.

Well, send the PM to you, thanks!
And you guys did give me reason to check out other browsers, so I am testing out Chrome now. Seems like a nice browser for now!

I’d say, go with that advice.

I’ve tried Opera and I just can’t get into it on the PC. It’s a great alternative to the weak web browser on the iPod/Phone though.

I just had a quick look at the IE8 issues – with a surprising outcome!

It seems that IE got a rather big update. I had an extra stylesheet of 174 lines to make the site look OK in IE. I now removed it completely, and the site seems to look fine again!

Since removing all the extra CSS would probably break the site in IE6 and 7, I’ll leave it for them.

I don’t know the details of what you changed, but great job!

Not only did it fix the right side column of the site, but also everything else that was wrong in IE8! (squashed drop-down menus, the white-on-red dates to the left of news posts, and the wrong sized search box). It looks almost perfect in IE8 now, only thing missing are some rounded corners here and there. And in the IE9 pre-beta, it does indeed look 100% perfect now πŸ˜€
