I wish I would have found such a cool community that you have here on better terms… I’m hoping someone here can give me some good advice or explanation.

I bought a VB that was supposedly mint, like new, etc, and now that I finally got some batteries to try it out, no matter what game I put in I have a display that shows a bunch of wiggling, vertical lines and just, mess, all around the bottom of the screen. I’m not sure how else I can describe it. I did some searching around here and google and only found other issues, and a horizontal lines issue, but this is very different and I can’t find anyone else whose had this issue. It’s not so much lines on the screen as it is just fuzzyness, like its a bad connection or something. It jumbles around and its pretty bad and makes games unplayable. I loaded up the alignment screen and you can tell the lines “would” cross, but the horizontal line keeps flashing from left to right, like it won;t stay solid!

Anyone know about this issue? Do I try and rectify this with the seller and demand my money back? Can I fix it somehow (easily?)?

If I had that problem, I would try DogP’s system to solve the black line issues. Remember the solution involves getting the screen in the oven, so it will fix all the bad connection issues that may appear on that side. I would also revise all the system screen connections when I have the vboy open.

Another alternative is to speak with the seller to see if you can get your money back…

I am a techno-idiot, and using Dog’s info, I was able to bring back 3 virtual boys, one having the issue you are describing.

The process is easy as pie… hardest part is getting the tool to open the system in the first place!

Thanks for the reply… Any advice on where to get the “tools” I need? Can someone please point a newbie in the right direction? Has anyone typed up instructions, etc.? I really don’t want to inflict damage upon my “new” Virtual Boy! 😛

Use 2 small adjustable wrenches to tighten down the ribbon cable to the board immediately after you get it out of the oven that’s what I’ve always done : )

Guys! Weirdest thing! Turned on the VB tonight and it’s working perfectly.

Could this have been just a one time fluke? It’s so weird… I’ve had it set up on my bar this whole time, have not done anything different from yesterday, but now the screen is perfect.

You think it could have been that the place where the cartridges connect inside the headset was just a little dirty? The only reason I think maybe that was it is because the only thing I have done since getting the unit, is put games in and out of it a handful of times. 😛

Well… I have my fingers crossed! 🙂

I think at first the Virtual Boy was sad and angry at his old owner for giving it away, but now it knows there is someone new who cares and loves it 😉

Yes she is right, open a Virtual Boy is the hardest Part if you dont have the right tools. The rest is easy.
