Oh come on! This is such BS! I use to play the hell out of Mario Tennis for the virtual boy! I think the only reason why it was added as one of the worst was because the fact that the virtual boy was a failure in yahoo eyes.
What do you think? Do you seriously think Mario Tennis was THAT bad or worth mentioning as one of the worst mario games? I don’t think so!
The thing about Mario games is that all of them are fun and enjoyable to some extent, so even if you rank them and have to put some at the bottom of the list, the ones at the bottom can still be considered fun and enjoyable, just not as much as the rest. After looking at the list of all Mario games, I really have no idea of which ones would be at the bottom. The ones that would interest me the least would be the educational titles made for small children, but it wouldn’t be fair to call them bad games on account of the different target audience.

I find it more surprising that Mario Tennis is on this list rather then the Mario Tennis Open for the 3DS. If you don’t look at the shortcomings of the Virtual Boy Mario Tennis is a solid tennis game and shows of the 3D effect pretty nicely. After that the series evolved and got much better. Mario Tennis Open however was a huge step back. They boiled it down to a very basic Tennis game again. Much worse is that the game offers no challenge whatsoever. If you know how to react to the moves of your opponents you can use one strategy to easily win every single match. I haven’t been that disappointed by a Mario game in ages.
” To be fair, this 1995 Virtual Boy release was doomed from the start simply by virtue of being released on the Virtual Boy. ”
This guy’s opinion might be a little bit biased to begin with…
This is crap. The Virtual Boy games were on there because the guy hates the console. Coincidence the only two Mario games on the Virtual Boy are on the list? What about Mario teaches typing? Mario’s missing? Mario Picross? Way less enjoyable games then either of the two VB ones.
If Mario Clash is on the list, so should Mario Bros. It’s the same game mechanic.
Mario’s Tennis is a solid tennis game, I can’t think of any other one at that time of its release that was as fun as Mario’s Tennis.
I actually quite liked mario tennis. It showed some nice 3d effects that vb is capable off and game play is solid, a little to easy maybe but then that’s ok because of the target market its aimed at.
I don’t think these haters will ever stop, I just wish some of them would try before they moan!
I think its a good little game, and for most the first 3D game they play on the VB.
I liked it, and I don’t like tennis or tennis games usually but it was fun for a bit, until my copy of Red Alarm turned up…….

It was a normal tennis game. With mario characters. It sucked
That does not make a game suck. Plus that whole sentence smelled a fair bit of the AVGN Virtual Boy video…
While I wouldn’t say it’s sucks, I would say it’s just ok. It’s a simple tennis game that doesn’t have alot going for it considering it came out playing like an NES game in a time when it came out in a time that it shouldn’t have played like a NES game. Super Tennis on the SNES was a lot better.
But having said that, it does not deserve to be placed on the same list as Mario pinball land. That game sucks so hard, I actually stuck it in a fan from frustration. Unfortunately, it survived. And hotel mario? Geez. I’ve never played it, but who would? And don’t get me started with mario’s time machine. Terrible, terrible stuff.
Haven’t played mario clash, but considering that I’ve heard it plays like a 3D version of Mario Bros., it can’t be that bad.
Mario Clash is a lot of fun. But be sure you play it on your Flashboy with the two appropriate patches installed. (DogP’s controller config and Parasytes Level 41 plus selector otherwise it can be discouraging.

Tennis is fine; the 3D effects are great, except when a ball comes straight at you; makes ya’ cross-eyed.
Reminds me of an old joke:
“I wondered why the ball seemed to keep getting bigger and bigger; then it hit me….”
RE “clash” — I’ve been through all levels several times; past 100 they move really, really fast.
Does everyone know the “cheat” to get an extra, extra man on Clash???
