Original Post

I’ve done one Virtual Boy game review so far, planning to do all of them. First things first, Mario’s Tennis.

Now… My experience with things like this is that when I show people who don’t know much about the stuff in question, they’re intrigued and appreciative but when I show it to the experts, they find all kinds of faults with it. But nonetheless, I’m going to give it a try. So if you hate my first few reviews, and subsequently me, I’ll go away πŸ˜›

This is just great.

This video is rad… ke! πŸ˜€ Heh, I love that part.

It’s really great to see coverage of the Virtual Boy homebrew scene. Things like this don’t happen too often. Thanks for doing this!

Thanks for this new video Protoman85. πŸ™‚

I watched it yesterday, but was to busy to respond.
Very cool video, I like what you did; its neat you talk about the cool homebrews. I now am wanting to play Tron, Blox, and Blox 2.

The thunderstruck part made my day!

Nice that you liked the video, and thanks for commenting.

Some afterthoughts:

1.
I forgot to film footage for VUE Snake, as you saw, so I grabbed some screens via Red Dragon, I finally found out the key to grab a screen was “P”, probably for Print…
I really do like the Double Mode, it’s awesome and really clever use of the Virtual Boy’s dual D-pads.

2.
I forgot to write a part in the script for Super Bounce! I filmed it, but forgot up until after I was done with the video that I hadn’t featured it. Here’s my thoughts: The graphical glitches are pretty severe at times but the basic game is enjoyable. But that sound effect of weeee-oooo when going up and down gets annoying fast, makes me turn off the sound. And levels would be nice rather than an infinite stage.
But as usual it’s in progress so it’s cool. I like the concept, so keep at it.

3.
I didn’t rank the games in the video, but here are the ones
that are my favorites to play, in no particular order.

Castle of Doom, GameHero, Mario Kart Virtual Cup and VUE Snake.
Blox, Blox 2 and Soviet Union 2011 are really solid, but the genres are not for me personally.
The games with most potential are Capitan Sevilla, Mario VB and VB Racing.
Remember, only my opinions!

Thanks again and there’s one more video to go, a summary of the Virtual Boy and it’s games, where I’ll also rank all the official games in order, and give out “awards” to them in different categories. Don’t expect it very soon though, my next most immediate project is playing through Megaman 1-6 and making videos about that πŸ™‚

I am a bit confused since I always though that ChuChu Rocket and Channel Sweeper where both vb homebrew games
If not then I need to change my video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ordTjzfduDk LOL

I didn’t know that those existed.

oops… see next post.

The Chu Chu Rocket-type game appears as “Nice Mice” under the homebrew section. One has to press the “All” tab under the homebrew section to find all available games.

Ok πŸ™‚
Just pojnting out er 2 homebrews not in the video

Every VB review in one playlist, should you ever feel like having a VB marathon πŸ™‚

There is one more video coming, to round this all out. When it’s done I’ll add it to the playlist of course.

The duration of all your VB reviews is as long as a full length movie!

On another note, do you have any plans to review future releases of homebrew games?

Hey, it is!

Maybe, maybe not. Right now I don’t feel like it, but in time maybe my temporary completion-fetish might kick in.

So I recorded script for the final video today and because it turned out very long, I will make 2 videos. Yay?

Boy, if I would have had to guess which of your reviews would have the most views, I never would have guessed Insmouse no Yakata. I wonder why it has so many views over the rest?

I really like the hombrew showcase. It made me want to polish my game. Would be great to have a new review when there are new hombrews.

Probably because there aren’t any other good videos showing it. And it’s a good review too, as it explains all about the game. I showed it to two people who never heard of the game before as a general introduction to the game (they don’t have Virtual Boys, but at the time I was actively reverse engineering the game).

This is it, my final Virtual Boy video. First I give out awards in different categories to VB games, then list all of them in one big Top 23 Virtuay Boy games. Hooray for Virtual Boy =)

At the end is some of your “why I like the virtual boy” speeches, I didn’t put all of them in there though, to keep the length of the video down. And enjoyment up.

I wasn’t quoted at the end. :/

That was a great way to end it. Very nice video.
