What do you guys think? Right off the bat I found Virtual Bowling to be the “Bowling King” of Virtual Boy. However, I’ve found that Virtual Bowling is much easier and more predictable in consecutively nailing strikes than Nester’s. While both games are based on timing and skill, I’d have to give the replay value crown to Nester’s if putting *lots of effort* in achieving almighty 300 is your personal goal.
Also, Hands down to DogP for landing 300 in both titles.
I’ve gotta give it to Nester’s for both. Virtual Bowling is fun, but more of a serious simulation type game. Even if you didn’t like bowling, I think you could have a good time playing Nester’s. And yeah… Nester’s is TOUGH.

Hah, coincidentally I will be reviewing these two games head-to-head after my next review (Insmouse no Yakata) so you’ll find out my opinions then π

Awesome, been watching your reviews.
When you finally get to Virtual Lab, please don’t forget to mention the 3D breasts. For a game that lacks so much depth, stereoscopic tits apparently weren’t out of the question. π

=O! 3D Breasts? Where, and how do I access them?
I’ll be getting to Virtual Lab sooner than you’d think because I’ve planned to review three games at the same time after the bowling ones. The three games I and most others think are the three worst for VB, and decide which truly is worst. Virtual Lab, Virtual Fishing and Waterworld.
lol at how you guys are reacting to the 3D breasts π
anyways I did not vote because I’d rather wait to get both of those games on cartridge instead of playing them the alternative way… (I’m a collector and already want to collect every one of the Virtual Boy games so it wouldn’t bother me if they were somewhat mediocre)

Ouch, I really like Virtual Fishing, Virtual lab seems like a lazy homebrew but it has it’s moments and isn’t that bad of a puzzler, and Waterworld is just awful.
As for Virtual lab, the gal on the right that’s jumping and cheering you on has stereoscopic breasts that stand out (but nothing to get excited over?)
Concerning Virtual Fishing…if you took other fishing games from the same time era into consideration it’s not the best or worst fishing game, but also comes with the bonus of some memorizing 3D.
I think Virtual Fishing is pretty good as well. Like you said, Virtual Lab seems like a homebrew, but the game itself is pretty fun, just not polished. I disagree on Waterworld though… there’s nothing special about it, but I don’t think it’s a bad game. If anything, it’s just a little repetitive.

I don’t think Virtual Fishing is broken or anything, just that it’s boring beyond belief.

Yo’ Mama. π
You actually beat the game yet? I fealt like a proud old Japanese man that reaked of Ben-gay. A form of satisfaction and pride I wish I had never known. π
I like the game, I give it at least a 7/10.
Stinkers on my list are Waterworld for repetition off the bat, and Insmouth was “OMG” REALLY dated for the time, let alone the clumsy dual d-pad controls. I expect such poor corridor crap from the Atari 2600, not the VB.
I’ve never read the book “A Shadow over Insmouth”, maybe I’d respect the game more if I was a fan of the literature. Still, I think Insmouth has the coolest title screen of all time.
I just used my FlashBoy+ for the first time last night and, consequently, finally got to play Virtual Bowling for the first time ever, so I can now be a part of this thread. π
I’d have to say that bowling strikes in Virtual Bowling is MUCH easier than bowling strikes in Nester’s Funky Bowling, and I actually prefer the greater level of challenge found in Nester’s Funky Bowling. To be honest, I also prefer the physics of Nester’s Funky Bowling over the physics of Virtual Bowling. The pins in Virtual Bowling just don’t act very close to how real pins act in real life. The pins in Nester’s Funky bowling act much closer to actual pins, although the physics in Nester’s Funky Bowling also aren’t perfect. Hence, Nester’s Funky Bowling beats Virtual Bowling in the categories of realistic physics and level of challenge. Nevertheless, Virtual Bowling beats Nester’s Funky Bowling in the category of having a tournament mode. I so wish that Nester’s Funky Bowling had a tournament mode!
I’d also like to take this opportunity to give a shout out to Richard and DogP. Richard, you are so awesome for making the FlashBoy+! And DogP, you are awesome for making the Padder, which lets one play Virtual Boy games on the Virtual Boy! If it wasn’t for you two, I’d still be losing Ebay auctions for Athena Virtual Bowling and still wouldn’t have played this good game.
Even though I do prefer Nester’s Funky Bowling over Virtual Bowling in just about every category other than having a tournament mode, I still have to say that Virtual Bowling is a good bowling game and is fun to play, and I know I’ll be returning to it in the future.
