Nintendo Wii U VR Head Mount display concept begs the question why the Wii U isn’t utilizing it’s own technology to its full potential. The Wii U tablet is fully capable of wireless transmitting video and motion sense which could serve as a head mount display much like the 3d printer Open Dive or Googles cardboard io phone mods. Then you have the Wii controllers to complete the experience. All that would be needed is to transmit the video in stereoscopic to the Wii U tablet & the nerds could do the rest.

That would be something only Nintendo could release, while I like the idea, it would never be something that is really viable. The gamepad is just way too heavy to strap it on your head.
Though Nintendo always releases the weirdest add-ons.

Yeah and I think the VB is too heavy to strap on your head as well and clearly Nintendo thought so as well considering the stand is needed to play it 😉
All kidding aside, I really think it is too heavy.
I think a good head mounted VR system will have the battery on the back of your head (neatly covered in the strap) to balance things out and prevent the head unit from getting too heavy.
With current technology I think the front head unit shouldn’t have to be more than 100 grams if done right.

Virtual Boy actually had awesome resolution for 1995. It was the same as widescreen with roughly TV resolution of the time. 🙂

Nintendo’s view of the Rift doesn’t surprise me all that much. Nintendo has always been about family not the bottom dollar like the other guys. I’m proud of Nintendo for taking this direction.

Well it is good that Nintendo is also doing stuff for families but there are also player who dont want any Multi/Party/Group Games. They want Action, Adventure, Exploring, Story and want to play alone.
The Upcoming Zelda could all fit in this.
About 3D, well refuse 3D Headsets is kind of stupid.
They had a VB which was a failure but with this they had a lot of chance to research 3D. It seems that they never stopped experimenting with 3D afterwards. They claim they had a Luigis Mansion on GC running in 3D.
Then they came up with the 3DS and its special 3D screen.
They heavylie proposed 3D and now the 3DS runs really well despit its launch.
Starting now to refuse 3D Headsets makes no sense because it devalidates all their efforts etablishing 3D. 3D is not a Über Special feature anymore but it is standard now. Its just there in most TV and so on. This VR glases will come big, i am sure of it. This is just the best tech to output 3D right now. It just needs to get smaller faster and with much better resolution in order not to see any pixels anymore. The 3DS screen is not anywhere this good. The only real reason I see nintendo refusing it is just because the others doing it already. Doing a own one could look like copy. And maybe because they dont have proper hardware to support 3D in good resolution and fps.
