Behold! The new and shiny Planet Virtual Boy Version 4.0 is finally here! With this post, about 10 years of on and off development, personal changes, struggles, distractions, and, most of all, getting lost in feature creeped megalomania, when PVB became only a small part of a much, much bigger project, before I stripped the project’s scope down to the essential again, have come to a preliminary end. I could write a whole, separate article about the gyrose history of this new site; likewise I could fill pages outlining everything that’s new and cool. But instead I’d like to make it short (for now) and just invite everybody to explore and discover the new site for themselves. If I may suggest a starting point, the new database frontend page is a good one. 🙂
Thank you Krisse for all the work and time you have invested in the new PVB site!
Well done!
We appreciate your passion for the site!
Of course, we all need some time to get used to the new design and functions of the site.
Thank you Krisse!
Thanks, Cosmoliner, it was a lot of fun to build the site and I am a bit proud of it. 😉
BTW, I only just noticed that the news forum was closed to new replies, although it should only be closed to new topics by regular users. That would explain the lack of replies so far… Fixed that.
i agree much more modern 😛 thanks! but personally i kinda wish the mail and notification had its own icons next to the user profile image instead of having to click the profile icon to see the drop down menu. other than that its pefect imo.
Not to be ungrateful, since I do like the new design a lot, but it would be nice if it would work with mobile browsers, specifically Vivaldi on Android. Also, it still logs me off after a while, which is still annoying 😉
Side note: what is “connected items” in this comment form supposed to do?
Thanks!

Good point, I’ll think about it.

The layout is responsive and should work nicely on mobile browsers. Tested on Firefox for Android, mainly. But I just installed Vivaldi to test and found that the main menu is not working on it… D’oh, gotta look into it? Anything else that is not working?

Strange, it’s not doing that for me. Can you say roughly how long the site keeps you logged in? And, are you sure it’s not some “security feature” of your browser? 🙂

It’s similar to tags, but allows you to connect a forum thread to related database entries, e.g. “Hover Demo”. the benefit is that you get links to relevant database entries when viewing a thread and it allows to show lists of related forum threads in Database entries.
