Figured it would be nice to see everyone’s systems and game/accessory collections. I’m quite curious to see how many of the VBs on these forums are in good condition, and how many Blockbuster, retail display, japanese, etc kits there are among us.
Regrettably I sold the VB in my avatar many years ago after I first joined. I think I sold it to then fund the purchase of a new phat DS. Bad move.
I’ve just gotten back into the VB scene after missing it so much. I just purchased a Japanese console in mint condition, boxed. Can’t wait to share with everyone. I also bought a secondary head unit only because I thought I was going to be buying a VB set that had a defective head unit (I got out of that deal). I think I’ll be taking the spare apart and using it as parts for my Japanese model. Maybe have the ribbon cables soldered for when the Japanese model’s go bad.
So I’ll be posting my pictures soon. I have quite a few games already, which I’ll show when I get the console pics up.
But everyone else can start ahead of me. Let’s see those VBs!
:O So jealous! Those are some pretty lookin’ protos. Congratulations on the purchase!

3 more prototype carts have been added to the old collection. 2 of them contain Panic Bomber and the third one contains Jack Bros. (both Japanese versions). Once again, I took apart each prototype cartridge and made high resolution scans of both sides of the PCB as well as the shell pieces for each.
Do you consider dumping them so that they can be compared on byte level?

Yes, if I receive help from someone(s), I will gladly dump and freely release the ROMs for comparison purposes.
I don’t currently have a VB dumper in my possession. If one was mailed to me, I would dump the games and even make fresh dumps of the commercial versions and then return the dumper to the sender. I’ve heard before that the EPROM carts don’t require the same kind of dumper as the commercial carts, but I don’t currently know how to dump the EPROM carts either, so if a VB dumper for commercial carts cannot be sent to me for this purpose, then I would need to be taught the other way to dump the EPROM carts, which I guess doesn’t require as much as the commercial carts.
I think Minestorm owns a dumper. Not sure if it works for prototypes.

😛 you just had to ask ben 😛
Cool! I wasn’t sure if the dumper was still in your possession or not. I’ll shoot you an e-mail about how you want to go about doing it. Assuming it gets to me okay, I plan to go on a dumping spree, dumping every single cart that I have in my collection! Mwah ha ha ha!
You could try your hand at making your own a la DogP!
(Waaaay too intense a project for me. 🙁 )
That makes me wonder… Does anyone know why the Virtual Boy Cart connector is Pin based and not slot based (like all the Systems before it)? While the connection is probably more solid, Id be concerned with eventually bending one of the pins inside the VB unit itself. Then what?! Besides, all the cart based Nintendo systems after the VB (N64, GBA, etc) went back to slot loading cart. Some sort of experiment that failed?
Added the Virtual Boy Jacket to my collection recently.

Just thought id post a picture of my small collection. The only things missing from the bits i have is the box and manual for waterworld and box for my US adapter tap. Also just a note the adjustable stand in the back ground is homemade as is the storage box (modified tool box) but it works great and holds all my gear safely and securely.

Here’s a picture of my VB collection. All my games are complete.
The only official release I’m missing is WaterWorld. It is in the house but I can’t have it till next month. The other half has this thing about birthday presents. LOL
I’m also waiting for my copy of Blox to be shipped by Uncle Tusker and I’m keeping my fingers crossed over for a Faceball prototypes from Bigmak, or at least waiting for the retail copy of Faceball Re-mastered to be released.

Thanks Ben, i use this stand all the time now, it is much more comfortable. I can sit up right and look straght into the ‘red & black world’ so no bad back or neck strain!
@GauBan

Thanks guys. Yeah I’m happy with the condition of my stuff.
Funny thing is that I’ve had Virtual Bowling, Virtual Lab and SD Gundam for just over a month and hadn’t had a chance to remove them from the packaging until I did this photo.
Another thing I find interesting is the quality of 2nd hand games from US or Japan. Whenever I go to Japan I’m always impressed with the stuff is kept. The store staff use icecream sticks to open the boxes. This is just so they don’t crease the box when open it.
Just found the forum and thought I’d join in. I collect games and happened across a VB years ago at a hobby shop. They were selling the unit, accessories, and 6 games for only $50, naturally I couldn’t resist. I managed to track down the remaining US games although the rarest few don’t have their boxes and manuals. A slight disappointment but my focus is on the games anyway. I don’t make much of an effort to collect JP games though, the prices on those scare me anyway. Ha.
I recently had the good fortune to stumble upon a boxed soft case reincarnated as a 32-Bit System Transporter. It’s history is explained here: http://www.planetvb.com/modules/hardware/?type=accessories&sec=main&id=8
Boxed soft cases are pretty tough to find, but I’ve never seen one of these variants for sale until this one surfaced…and trust me, I’ve been looking. Even though the warranty card is the only thing that mentions the Virtual Boy, I thought it was still an interesting item considering the history.
I added some scans of the back and sides to help update what little info there is on this thing.
