As a member of a Virtual Boy community there’s probably a chance that you might like other obscure gaming items as well. I thought it’d be fun if we shared our cool stuff that is obscure, but isn’t VB related 🙂
I’ll start off with…something that isn’t really mine, but I’m one of very few who has the rom for it. I was tasked to research it and provide the owner with the information for them to make a video, but, that never ended up happening. It exchanged hands then was sold off and now I have no idea where the cart is. So, I figured I may as well put it out myself.

Not mine but still a cool item to see nonethelessVery cool piece of hardware!
One piece of advice, do not put boards on anti static bags! The outside is conductive and can fry your board.
People say it isn’t that bad, but better safe than sorry. Put it on a piece of cardboard if you are protecting your table 😉
Not trying to protect the table, was trying to protect the board! I’ll put it on a piece of cardboard from now on. It usually resides INSIDE the anti static bag so it made sense to take it out and place it on top. I shall no more though!
Thanks 🙂
It looks like it’s on standoffs, anyway, so there should be no worry about the ESD bag (but, likewise, it won’t actually help much, either). Putting a bare board on cardboard is probably not good, ESD-wise, though. If you do much electronics work, invest in an ESD safe surface for your bench, and make sure it’s well-grounded (aka “earthed”).
(BTW, PM reply sent!)

It is on standoffs. Ok, scratch the cardboard =P
What about just being on the bare wood? Would that be ok? You’re right, an ESD surface would be ideal..definitely something to look into!
That’s pretty cool; Does it have a case or is it just a board? It sort of reminds me of R-Zone DataZone (without it’s shell) except it’s based on the excellent selling Gameboy Advance.
No joke before it powered on and before noticing the edge with the GBA cart, I thought it was a DataZone deshelled.

No, no shell for it, it was just used so some devs could create software before the final board was finished. This is as pretty as she gets =P
These are probably my most obscure bits in my collection. A pair of Elsa Revelator 3D glasses from around 1999, and a tandy/bandai electronic gold game from around 1980.

They are basically just LCD shutters that worked with their own range of graphics cards and produced a 3d image by offsetting the scanlines and showing each eye only one set of scanlines. At least, that is my understanding of it anyway. Was pretty impressive back in the day, and am tempted to put something together so I can give them a go again.
Just wanted to update the people that were interested in how this progressed. I think a picture explains it best. I’m also planning to make a little video explaining the difference I find, which I’ll post here when it’s ready.

You’re right, it sure is! You just really don’t see stuff like this much.
I think it’s really cool, especially being a huge fan of Gameboy related stuff. I literally don’t own a single obscure item, everything I have in the gaming world is pretty common. I have obscure non gaming stuff but that doesn’t count.
Some obscure items I own.
-Video Game Brain (cartridge loader and storage) for Atari 2600 CIB
-Mario’s Time Machine for PC
-Wordtris (Gameboy) prototype
-Donkey Kong Country 2 bandaid’s (country ???)
-Virtual Boy light up display sign
-Wordtris (Gameboy) prototype
Nice like, is it one of thise dev carts with the rom chips sticking out the top?
Those banaides sound cool too, i love old product tie ins
I’ve got a couple ideas.
I have a Pin-Bot machine, but what’s unique about it is that it is home use only.
Also I have this piece of dawn of the SNES hanging marketing display sign (personal favorite so I sought it out years ago.)
I did have that Sharp NES TV you saw earlier in the thread up until a few years back, sold it off since it was becoming a burden and it was complete (legs, doors, remote, 2 controllers) too.
I do have some really obscure stuff though, but not gaming related. One thing is a toy set from a company that only lasted a few years like 50 years ago and it’s still in the box, minor damage to the toys, been notified it’s worth around $2K (and I picked it up for $10 at a goodwill which amazes me.)

Nice, like that sign!
Finally got around to finishing that video I was gonna make on that GBA.
Thanks, that’s impressive however you found that old GBA prototype board, and interesting game glitches there too. Shame the switch for the older GB family wasn’t present.

It is, i’ve never checked to see if my particular version was ever dumped. I remember years back when I got and saw other protos sold on ebay so I kind of figured mine was noting special. If I remember right it was a finalized copy.
