I know the only way beside the hyper-rare and expensive TV-boy thingy to record VB games by filming into it. Problem is, when I try the screen goes black from right to left every 5 seconds or so. Is it because my camera is filming in 25 frames and the VB being american shows NTSC/29.97 fps? Do VB even have regular FPS? It doesn’t seem like I can change the camera to shoot in NTSC instead of PAL… do I have to get an american camera?
This question interested me, so I shot a quick film at 720p 60Hz on my American camera. The video flickers a lot, but doesn’t go blank. I’m definitely not getting quality video.
Wiki says the VB has a 50.2 Hz Horizontal Scan Rate, which should go perfect with European 50Hz products one would think.
The VB doesn’t use NTSC. In fact, the scan rate is closer to PAL, but it doesn’t use that, either (it’s not color, remember?). The effect you’re seeing is a stroboscopic effect caused by the scan frequencies of the VB and your camera being nearly, but not quite, identical. With an NTSC camera, you’d still get the black bars, but they’d scan at a different speed and possibly in a different direction.
Just bug DogP to start selling his TV-converters π
I’ve also found that recording with the camera sideways sometimes gives a better video… it probably depends on the camera though. Of course the VB draws vertical lines scanned horizontally… rather than a normal TV which draws horizontally lines. Then you can use software to rotate it back. It just takes trial and error to see if this helps any.

So maybe now I can start doing Virtual Boy video reviews π
These days everybody with a videocamera wants to be a reviewer! π
In my opinion, just do a series of videos showing what VB games are really like (but in depth) so people (particularly VB haters) will get enlightened.

First, I’m not new to it. Second, thats basically a review, minus opinion. Whats wrong with opinion? Remember, I like VB.
