A warning to ALL. eBay is banning all Virtual Boy items. They sent me 4 violation policies in 1 hour for listing 4 virtual boy games. They stated verbatim, that if the word Virtual is in my title, it is a policy violation. I of course explained Virtual boy as a tangible console and games, but had no resolve. I told them the actual UPC codes, but they said I could only list them as accessories and still could absolutely not use the word “Virtual” in the title.
They said I could list my games such as “Virtual Lab” in the game accessories section, as long as the word virtual was not used………
OK, raise of hands here. How many people would find my copy of “Virtual Lab” without the word Virtual? My entire eBay title is “LAB”? Virtual Bowling can only be sold as “Bowling”. F*&^)(@ ultimate eBay fail.
I suggest everyone contact eBay and complain about this “no questions asked” removal of the word virtual in the video games section.
For the first time in a VERY long time, I will say this will be the downfall of the VB for the second time.
(And No, eBay still refused to create a “VB” category for VB collectors without the word Virtual)
So in the future, no VB games can have the word “Virtual” in the title. Time to rename the console, I Guess?
No more prototypes will be surfaced, that’s for sure. π
This is ***SO*** important, I really hope this thread is followed and looked into by fellow collectors.
i’m thinking it has to do with virtual goods sold on ebay and people who do not send the “information” after the payment has been made.
it would make sense to me that they could simply force users to enter a UPC or serial number if they were going to use the term “virtual” in their auction listing. there isn’t but a large handful of virtual boy related auctions at any one time, it isn’t like they can’t police those.
Man thats just daft, and damaging to our red friends future.
Looks like the market place area here could get a bit of an increase in traffic, so bad ebay = good for planetVB?

What are “virtual goods?” I’m confused.
I’m confused also, I just checked Ebay & there are a lot of “virtual” league baseball games on there plus a ton of other virtual boy stuff using the word in their title. So why was he banned from using the word but others are not?
It has to be the case that the software that is banning the uploads is only banning words that contain exactly the word “Virtual.” If that is the case, then I think that “VB” or “V Boy” should be used.
Thus, if one is selling the console, it should be marked as “VB Console.” Virtual Lab should probably be marked as “VB Lab,” etc.
To answer some of the questions:
The reason why the other “Virtual” titles are on there is probably because they were already on the site before the new ban was placed. It would be wrong for Ebay to remove those items ex post facto.
I believe a “Virtual Good” refers to anything that is simply downloaded from the site and not any tangible object that is sent via the mail.
PS – Virtual Jockey, are you trying to sell Virtual Lab? ‘Cause if so, I’m right here. π

Besides it being idiotic to ban words that may be used to make possibly fraudulent auctions, (there are plenty of honest people selling useful virtual items) there is also the fact that THE SCAMMERS WILL JUST STOP USING THAT WORD IN THEIR SCAMS!
Not only should this policy be reversed, but the half-wit “executives” who proposed and/or implemented it should be fired.
Sounds like it’s time for a storm of emails (“firm but respectful” will probably work better than “belligerent and obscene”) followed by a boycott.
You know what could happen now?
Some people could find their Virtual Boy and games for it, want to list it on ebay because they don’t know what other place would take it (Gamestop does NOT take VB items), realize they CAN’T, and… some might just throw said Virtual Boy and its games away! meaning less Virtual Boys and Virtual Boy games! π
How will I ever get every game for this brilliant console now?! ebay is my #1 choice because it offers specifics (box is in great shape, game works perfectly, etc.), photos, a variety of VB games that I could probably have only a 00.01% random crazy chance to find in a real-life store and feedback telling me if I’m buying from a good source…
I will treasure my Virtual Boy even more now!
(Hopefully someone will convince ebay to allow some things with the word “Virtual”?)
You can still list the games, will just get an email saying you will get a policy violation if you don’t cancel. However, multiple policy violations in a short time is a quick ticket to getting banned on eBay. π
Non Category items such as Virtual Lab, Space invaders and Virtual bowling will definitely be flagged (The UPC code lists the item as a GPS device!). I am not a fan of this new catalog system, it only hinders rare game sales.

That reminds me of that time we all realized the FlashBoy’s UPC code is actually for a car part!
I am so happy I live in Sweden since I never use ebay
I buy all from tradera, a swedish site just like ebay but with no bans π

I talked to my dedicated rep at eBay (I’m username “uber-hot” on eBay, and I have 11 Top-Rated seller accounts, some are platinum power seller accts.) and he said that the auctions were probably ended in error, and that he knows of no reason why they should’ve been ended. He acknowledged a policy of ending virtual items, but the fact that an item is called a “Virtual ______” should not, in and of itself, be removed. Virtual Boy items can still be bought and sold on eBay.
If this is true do any of you have a Contact Us email for them?
I would like to have voice if true…

It isn’t true. There are no restrictions on selling Virtual Boy items.
I was on the phone for 3 hours. Maybe I was targeted, but eBay insisted for the entire long 3 hours that it was my fault for selling Virtual items. Ebay support is simply arse, and they would at no point accept fault but simply stated over and over that all virtual boy listings were being investigated. As usual, seems no truth to the words spewed out of the mouths of the uneducated degenerates that eBay hires to manage important financial decisions for the peoples lives that are the lifeblood of this sad excuse of a private seller funded institution.
@ colesonwilson: It was so absolutely ridiculous, I requested that eBay keep recordings of the conversation so I could contact a supervisor in the future since none could care to take my call. You are more than welcome to PM me for my username to investigate further. I am glad to see that someone added a fake category listing for Japanese VB games with inaccurate info and UPC, but that shouldn’t have to be the case to sell legitimate items that they’ve been profiting on for years.
