The name is Tygar, Hawl Tygar. I’ve been known as a dreamer, of sorts.

As a child, I always wanted a virtual boy, but alas, couldn’t have one as my mom thought I’d get eye cancer. Years later I’m a teenager who remebered the handheld he wanted so much as a boy, who got so excited over the rumors of an upcoming Virtual Boy 2 when he was but a 6 year old.

I bought a VB over ebay and it’s everything I imagined it would be when I was young.

So, why am I telling this story? Because we have to show Nintendo that the VB wasn’t a failure as it touched the hearts of many, including myself, and mass-petetions will be unsuccessful and probably wouldn’t mean anything if we did succed. We have to show we’re crazy about Virtual Boy! Take our VBs to the parks and tell any young kids who walk up to us that, no we’re not looking through binoculars, we’re playing with our game boys!

Anyway, how do we do that? Easy, I propose we start a task force that gets serious about homebrews, I mean a group willing to build and release plenty a homebrew game. None of this “Pacman Demo” or look I made a puzzle game that takes advantage of the unused 2-player capabilities. I intend to do my part to ensure that this previously mentioned group makes real games and makes em right. It is my intention to make demand for Virtual Boy sky-rocket. I know this is a little bit far-fetched, but as a wiseman once said, shoot for the moon, even if you miss you’ll land among the stars, and right now my spaceship is eying a red glowing moon hungrily.

We each have a skill that can help accomplish this goal of reviving Virtual Boy with badass homebrew games, but it will never amount to anything unless we band together and tackle projects.

If you wish to join my group, which I shall call, Birdbot V-Labs, please list your AIM name if you have one and any skills you have that can help with the dream of a VB revival.

I suppose it’s only fair I list my talents as well

The VB is dead, sorry if you don’t know that yet. There never was a big VB scene, and probably never will be.

Another thing about your idea of bringing back the VB. I wish it were that easy. Nintendo hates to admit failures, and even a huge homebrew scene will never make them do any more with our loved Boy.

Your “talents” seem to lack one major thing. To start a game, you need to know how to code for the VB. People don’t want to code for others.

I’m also a Mother fan, Nintendo will NEVER be willing to acknowledge anything more that at one point there was a sysem called Virtual Boy.
Nintendo will never admit that there is a strong Earthbound fanbase and they won’t do the same for Virtual Boy.

But it’s not about getting them to admit they were wrong about something or that people did love their project. It’s about proving to them that people care, Nintendo sure as hell is too ashamed to admit it, but NOA wishes they COULD bring Mother 3 over to America.

The point is showing that WE CARE about Virtual Boy. I know people aren’t willing to code for me, but that’s not what I’m asking, I know there are a few engines that already exist we can work with. I’m saying, we prove to the world that we’re not mourning over the one year VB run, but that we celebrate the awesomeness that is Virtual Boy, by refusing to let it die.

Now WHOSE WITH ME!?!?!

Hmmm, I would venture to guess that the quote above is actually quite the opposite…

I believe Nintendo truly loves the Virtual Boy for what it was.. granted it dies in the marketplace, which is something no company wants, but I honestly believe that Nintendo was, and to an extent, still is, quite proud of what they brought to the table with the Virtual Boy… it was (and still is) incredibly innovative, had some truly unique and fun games, and was overall a high quality item.

I think ultimately it’s failure lied in the fact that it was practically impossible to market. Too big for a (truly) portable system, to small and weak to be a new console, I think it died because the casual market had no idea what to do with it…

And I would have to say that you need look no further then the Wii lineup to see that Nintendo truly loved the Virtual Boy, some of the biggest 1st party games pay homage to the Virtual Boy…

Super Paper Mario – Francis the Nerd has one sitting on his shelf in what is my opinion, the best level of the game… massive fanboy service.

Super Smash Bros Brawl – Games and release dates listed right in the Chronicles area of the game.

Warioware – Hidden in sand in one for the games

I think it was a sore spot to them for a few years, but in the end I think Nintendo knows they had a great product, and they have paid respect to it the past few years…

Let’s not forget that the Virtual Boy is the second not the first attempt at a 3D system. The first being the Famicom 3D System http://www.famicomworld.com/Doodads/3D_Goggles.htm
only released in Japan. Now with head tracking on the Wii… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jd3-eiid-Uw
Possibilities of there being another 3D peripheral I think are just around the corner. No, Nintendo didn’t make a mistake with VB hell no they didn’t. They made a mistake with how they designed the ribbon cable connections on the inside of the VB however lol 😀 Don’t fear though I believe in the next year or so we’ll see some 3D action concerning the Wii.

You forgot another WarioWare one.
In WarioWare INC. Mega Microgame$ the 9-volt stage had a VirtualBoy in plain view. Also, one of the Microgames was Mario Clash.
In many of nintendos games they slip the virtualboy in.

Too be honest, I just noticed that no one was really doing much work on the homebrews section of this website and thought that I should rally some of ya up in a team devoted to it, in order to increase the amount of homebrews, but it is nice to see that Nintendo stills honors it.

Now that I think about it, wouldn’t making more homebrews be a way for us to look back at Nintendo and smile, showing we care too? So, because of this, I’ll keep the team thing open if anyone wanted to join in on it and honor VB, but… no pressure, there’s no hurry, the VBs that are with us today will always be special in our hearts, no matter how poorly it sold. *huggles his VB*
