I’m not sure if this has been asked before, i couldn’t find anything when i searched for it.
Is it possible to stream video to the displays in the VB unit. Could in theory a camera feed each display, then you get to ‘see’ the world in VB redness with depth. I appreciate there would need to be some kind of conversion to the red shades required and most likely some hardware mods required to get the feed to the displays but just wondered if it was possible or even been tried.
The thought been in my head for a while and then Runnerpack posted the link a while back of some fella hacking a Tommi unit with 2 lcd screens which got me thinking again, and finally it come into the recall part of my head while logged into the site so i remembered to search & post.
It’s possible, but not easy. The easiest would be to use the link port, but it’s really too slow for streaming full video frames. Alberto ( http://www.emuunlim.com/VirtualE/ ) did something similar, where he rendered an OpenGL image on the PC and streamed it to the VB display. He used a lot of compression and it still wasn’t perfect.
I think the best way would be to add an FPGA to a cart, and stream the data to the FPGA, which would have a direct connection to the VB bus, and have plenty of bandwidth to stream full frames to the displays.
DogP,
dude thanks for that, so it is possible, with some alterations, not that I’m likely to give it a go but the posibility is there, question answered.
Also ta for the link, will check it out.
