How do I turn a C file into something to run in a Virtual Boy emulator? I was fiddling around with Notepad making a C file and I downloaded gccvb and VIDE, but I can’t find anything that would do this?

Just so you know, there is a level select screen. Press select at the title screen to get to it, then press left or right to change the number then start to start. As for sound, here’s what KR155E had to say:

“Sound is not an easy task. Some people have gotten sound to work in their homebrews, but no one released any code yet. Better finish the game first, release it without sound, and create a version 1.1 if you ever get sound working.”

Added level 30.

Added levels 31 and 32 as well as a congratulations screen. To see the congratulations screen, all you have to do (now) is beat level 32. I wanted a fancy picture and stuff, but just like I feared, space is limited. I’m going to make it so that you have to start on level 1 and beat all 32 levels in order to see it, I just wanted you guys to see what it looks like before I do this. If you use the level select to get to levels 2-32 in the final version, after you beat level 32, you’ll just go to the title screen. GoSub is in its final stages. I also changed the font a little bit.

Yay! It’s coming! 🙂 Gave it a quick play. Looks good. Some bug reports/suggestions:

– Transition between “Important” screen and title screen does not look very good. You should use fading there as well. (Although I’d make that one fade quicker than the fade out on the title screen.)

– Same thing for many other screen transitions, like to the level select screen or going back to the title screen after you died

– Level select still does not always recognize button presses, probably due to waitFrame() calls

Other than that, nothing to complain.

I put in your suggestions, KR155E, see if it looks good. This still isn’t the final version, I have to play-test the levels and make sure they are beatable.

Works like a charm now, great! 🙂

sorry to sound like a super noob
You said the game was full (cant fit more to be able to play on hardware), does that really mean the flashboy can only take small games because it uses a chip from first generation vb games?

If thats the case then the vb will never show its power if hombrew people can only limit themself to games that fit on the flashboys chip instead of making big games that u expect of a 32 bit system (even thought the system is not cd based)

What I meant by “full” was that if I put any more in the game, it would be 1 MB instead of 512K, I’d just assume not waste a whole bunch of space if neccessary. I don’t know what the size limit is on a FlashBoy, but anyway, that’s what I meant.

OK, Now all I have to do is check to see if all the levels are beatable. The logic for starting on level 1 only to 32 to get the congrats screen is in the game now.

The Flashboy has 2 MB of space I think. You can play Wario Land on it, right? And Wario Land is 2 MB, and I don’t think there are any games larger than that.

The Virtual Boy supports games up to 16 MB. According to DogP, it even supports SNES-style chips in games! So the VB is a lot more powerful than most people think.

yeah but if someone makes a game over 2 mb then dpesnt matter if the vb can handle it since the flashboy cannot unless someone makes a special cart for vb

There was a problem with level 8 that made it impossible to beat. I fixed it. Every level should be beatable, tell me if you see any problems.

Right now I’m stressing over last minute details. I want every level to be difficult, but not too difficult. It’s a fine line. I’ve changed levels 6, 7 and 17 with this build.

OK, now that it’s done, I’d like to pay someone to burn this on to a Virtual Boy cart. I have an extra Mario’s Tennis laying around that I could mail to you if you’re interested. PM me if you’d like to do me a favor by doing this for me.

Any picture of the finished cartridge?
