That link cable is a hell of a find. VERY interesting indeed.

I’m sure DogP and Hedgetrimmer would love to take a close look at it.

Does anyone who is familiar with yahoo auctions know how to contact the seller? Ive used buyee’s and google’s page translations and cant find that option anywhere. Thanks.

I’m pretty sure that for people who use proxy services to bid on Yahoo Auctions Japan, most proxy services offer their bidders the service of contacting the seller to have any questions answered. Thus, one wouldn’t even have to know any Japanese at all, and the proxy service could communicate in fluent Japanese with the seller. One should be able to look at one’s proxy account and find the means to ask one’s proxy service to relay any desired questions to the seller.

But in the case of one who does not use a proxy service, I have no idea.

I think someone has already tried to write the seller. I just hope that whoever wins, makes the cable avail. to dogp or hedgetrimmer to help out with their cord project.

So I had no luck finding the option through buyee at all. One question I had was what the total weight would be so I can get an idea of shipping fees. Can someone here who has a debugger give me an idea on the weight?

Holy Shizzle!!!

Not even does the VUE Debugger come with a PC Interface card, it also includes a link cable!

I’ve not seen Chris this excited since joining this community. =)

I would love to see this loaned out to a video game/electronic’s related museum. I’ve never seen an official VB-to-VB link cable. I was under the impression that it did not exist. It really should be put on display for a time.

The official link cable today, Dragon Hopper tomorrow! Well anyway I can dream…right

I really don’t mean this in a harsh way, but if you have to worry about the cost of shipping, you probably don’t have to worry about winning the auction. There is no telling how high this sucker is going to go for, but it will probably go much higher than most would ever imagine, so one basically has to throw more than everything one has at it to stand a chance. It is definitely a “go big or go home” situation.

Mosaic…a bit faded on the virtual boy on the box..BUT…

also comes with the mosaic tap. Good deal with both..just sayin.

Didn’t take it harsh at all. I was just asking because I set myself at a $2000 limit for it with shipping and fees included. After talking to bigmak im under the impression that that amount is probably going to be negligible compared to what it will probably sell for so I guess im out :\

You really think so? When I compare it with the situation in the Vectrex community it seems the group of people enjoying the Virtual Boy is extremly small. I have the feeling that even most hardcore Nintendo fans that buy everything Nintendo hate the VirtualBoy.

For now I expect to see it going for in the 200.000 to 203.000 Yen area + shipping and handling, but of course I could be totally wrong here. 😉

BTW: Thanks for that auction link, I have not seen it before and it will be quite entertaining to watch that. Too bad the auction is before the end of the month and my bank account is empty as we recently also had to pay for our long planned vacation.

This time my wife would not be able to complain that I bought “new crap from eBay” as it would not be eBay this time…
🙂

VectrexRoli2 :
i have done allot on yahoo.co.jp for virtual boy items and i dont think this will end for 200.000 yen range
this will probbely end between 700.000 to 800.000 yen range excluding shipping / proxy server cost / import taks so on the end you still have to pay a bill from above 1.000.000 yen

here some other nice items on yahoo:

nice store demo off mario clash japan and cheap :

wario land store demo japan ( i think to expansief bud good condition :

That is because when it comes to collecting for the Virtual Boy, the biggest, most serious uber-collectors largely keep themselves hidden from the Virtual Boy community. There are many “unknowns” who, no doubt, will laugh at the estimated end price that Mawa provided. I’m saying this because this is very serious. We don’t have to worry about battling this out with each other. We have to compensate for the secretive uber-collectors, some of whom will now finally reveal the kind of values that they place on the rarest of Virtual Boy items, since this transaction won’t be occuring privately, which is usually how they would like to keep it. The only value that won’t be revealed, of course, is the max value of the highest bidder. The biggest of the uber-collectors will all be using the snipe bidding option on this auction, no doubt, so we won’t know their values until it is too late.

This is basically a once in a lifetime opportunity. If this auction falls into the hands of one of the secretive uber-collectors, we will never know what will come of these items and never learn anything more about them. I’m with Lester Knight and Indiana Jones on this one: “Those belong in a museum!” But unfortunately, that’s not going to happen.

I think we should make a separate topic for the cord and vue-debugger auction. That way we can keep the pictures there and talk about it. We can find the thread faster in the future and update it if we can.

As cool as that link cable and debugger is… I personally wouldn’t pay THAT much for it. Yes, it’s the first (and only) official link cable to surface, and the debugger is probably complete enough to actually work. But at the end of the day… that’s all you have.

To me, the coolest part of that whole auction is that it confirms that an official link cable was actually made. But do I REALLY care about actually owning it? Not that much. 😛 Maybe some hardcore collector does… but I’m not so sure. When you compare this to something like a cartridge of an unreleased game (Zero Racers, Dragon Hopper, etc)… this is MUCH less exciting (at least IMO).

There aren’t any games that natively use the link cable (other than a few homebrew)… and presumably the official link cable doesn’t work any better than a homebrew one. And who knows… if they actually mass produced that one cable (looks like an officially injection molded cable), there may be a whole box of them somewhere waiting to be discovered (maybe even that seller has them and will slowly auction them… like the official EPROM carts a few years back).

And while I’d love to get a look at the link cable, I’m pretty sure we’ve got the correct pinout, so it doesn’t really help us from a technical standpoint (though if anyone here gets it, and can confirm the pinout, that’d be cool).

Regarding the debugger… again, very cool piece of hardware, but the fact that you can actually plug it in and run it doesn’t really do much. Our homebrew dev tools are quite good, and given the choice, I can’t imagine actually doing dev using an official dev kit. We’re able to take official code, compile it, and output a binary, so again, it doesn’t get us any closer to anything on the technical side of things.

DogP

I thought it might help you with the cable end (getting a exact fit) ?

-Eric

We could certainly measure the exact dimensions of the official one to copy, though since we have what it plugs into, it’s not too difficult to figure out the dimensions of something that fits. Especially since it has to be modified a bit since the original pins don’t seem to be available (I’d assume it uses the same pins as the SNES A/V cable).

Oh, and I wish that dev kit came with some code for an unreleased game (even wrestling or some stupid horse racing game 😛 )… now that’d be REALLY cool. 🙂

That would be so cool, I’d love to see any of those unreleased games to be honest =P

wow 🙂 nice collection for sale

Wow, now that’s a very clean set with some awesome goodies included. It’s interesting he’ll only sell to people with less than 1000 feedback points. Hey, I have less than 1000!

Hrms just a heads up..I don’t think these ever came sealed..so never pay a premium for a sealed Japanese game.

Japan virtual boy games never where sealed
Only the resellers ( game stores in japan ) are sealing the second hand games to resale in the stores or online

so thisis probbely a second hand game or maybe oldstock
