Well most of you are aware that the display inside the VB is not the fact of Nintendo, but has been developped by a company named Reflection Tecnology Inc. While I was surfing the web to find some data (I wrote an article in french relating all the VB history, as nobody did it before), I found a curiosity: a seller have ten FaxView, completely new.
One have to know that the FaxView is a personnal device that connects to a phone or a pc to receive and send some faxes. It is the only other device using the red and black display, as RTI closed the gates short after because of the failure of the VB (they had great hope in it).
So there are few FaxView around there, I think most of them have been put to trash since 1997. The item is not directly VB related, apart the fact it uses the same technology, but I was thinking it could be a great addition to a VB-themed collection. Sadly I could not afford one by myself as they do not ship to France.
RTI is younger, it was founded in 1985, and The Adventure Vision is another engineer’s baby. There surely is a link because the technologies are really close.
Already got a Faxview, but just ordered another one. Heads up everyone, this is the only time I’ve ever seen these for sale ever, so I wouldn’t be shocked if someone bought the whole stock and sat on them. If you want one, I’d act fast.
The VB and Adventure Vision both use red LEDs, but the VB uses an oscillating mirror, where the Adventure vision using a multi-sided mirror that constantly spins in the same direction. Quite similar, but the RTI version produces a more stable picture and higher frame rate.
