I went to this old video game shop, they had boxes of Virtual Boys, but the seller insisted that the boxes are completely empty, i said ”Can i atleast SEE the box?”, He says ”No,theres nothing”. And for months, one time i went there again, I asked again ”Is that for sale?” he said the same thing ”its empty” BUT someone else working in the store said ”There is a system inside”, and i was like ”NO WAY, SO YOU DO HAVE A VIRTUAL BOY?”, he took the box down and i opened it to see a newer used Virtual Boy, so i said ”I will definitely buy this for 5 Bahraini dinars(13 bucks!!) and he said ok , so i went home with a brand new Virtual Boy, i was extremely happy, but when i tried it , the left eye didnt work but soon after 3 days, it automatically worked by itself, now its working perfectly. Now aint this a pretty sweet Virtual Boy deal?? Can everyone please share their stories on how you got your Virtual Boy?
I bought mine back in August 1998 brand new at a store for $29.99. I was only 13 in 1998, so it took all the money I had on me! It was on the top shelf behind the counter, so I couldn’t tell how much it cost. I was glad I asked!
I was so excited to finally have a Virtual Boy, because I had rented one from Blockbuster when it came out, but it was way too expensive to buy at that time.
I remember after getting it, I called around the local stores that sold video game stuff, and found a store that had Teleroboxer and Warioland, for $12.95 each. So I bought one of each. Then some time later, I found a brand new Galactic Pinball online, so I bought that too (I can’t remember where, or how much). The two games I had rented originally were Mario Tennis and Galactic Pinball, so those are the two I had to have, and was happy once I finally got them.
Then I remember looking on ebay and seeing whole cases of Baseball for $10 or less, but I didn’t want that game, so I never bought it.
Flash forward to a year or so ago (a few months before I registered this account). I got out my Virtual Boy again, and the stupid thing had a glitchy screen! It had been sitting in climate control forever, but the thing still broke. So unfortunately, you have a display that needs repair. And it has nothing to do with how it was stored or anything. And it will only get worse with time, but the good news is it is an easy fix, and you have no physical damage to the unit! Just poor engineering on their part that can be easily repaired.
Anyway, after finding my broken VB, I got back into the spirit. I bought 3 more VBs (one came complete with the Blockbuster case!), a copy of Golf, V-Tetris, Nesters Funky Bowling, Vertical Force, Red Alarm, Mario Clash, and Panic Bomber.
Congrats on your find!

Don’t remember exactly when I got it. I believe it was around the holidays at the end of 1995 a few months after it came out. Couldn’t even tell you what store I got it from. Walked in, they had them, went to the counter and asked for a Virtual Boy, got a couple games and was on my way.
I got mine in early 2009 at a junk store for $3.00. It was just the system only but I was still really happy getting it. I ordered a controller with two games (Mario Tennis, and Galatic Pinball) I loved playing it and I played it for hours at a time. Until about two months later the day I got Virtual League Baseball in the mail from ebay the system got the glitchy display, and at the time I diddn’know you could fix it so I got rid of it but kept the games I had. Around late July I went into a comic book store and I had a good feeling I should ask if they had a VB, so I asked the guy he said “Yeah I think we might just have one” He moved around a few boxes and there was a VB and once I saw it I asked how much he wanted for it, and he said $20.00 after he said that I was so happy and gave him the money. The night I got home I sat down for about three hours playing games.

Man what a deal :-D. Are there any other games you are planning on getting?
The only game currently i have is Mario’s Tennis. I dunno where to find games other than Ebay, even though i got my Atari 2600 and Virtual Boy here in Bahrain, it dosen’t seem there are ANYONE who has ever owned a Virtual Boy here,if there are, i don’t think they would mind selling the games, but i’m planning to get Wario Land and Mario Clash, my two main must get games for Virtual Boy. and BTW guys the glitchy display goes away after awhile, my screen was getting scrambled then the next hour its clear and perfect. the place that i bought my VB from had 2 more VBs left but i tried both to see if they work cuz mine’s left display didnt work at all. It seems the place had one NON working virtual boy and it looked extremely used and one working VB but its on reverse, the left eye worked but the right eye was blank where my left was blank and the right worked. My cousin went and got the last working Virtual Boy. But how is this possible? the system’s left eye dosn’t work at ALL and suddenly it works during a game of Mario Tennis?LOL
My virtualboys right screen also seems to have problems at startup sometimes that go away after a few minutes, it’s not completely blank or anything, just some artifects.
I got my first vb back in 2000, I think. I was in a pawn shop in a small town in texas. They had a whole shelf full of headsets shrinkwrapped with controllers for $10 (no stand, visor or battery pack). So I bought one. Then I got a selection of 10 common games for like $30 and a battery pack cheap from vglq, before they became scammers. I would just lay down to play it and keep the lights off so I didnt need a stand or visor. Later on I got a complete one off ebay for $50 with some games.
I saw the Virtual Boy many times before buying one. In 2006, I saw a Youtube video of someone playing Wario land in their backyard with a battery-powered Virtual Boy. I only watched for like 10 seconds, then went to another video. 4 years went by. (It was 2010 now) I found a 2010 Guiness world records gaming edition. I ordered it. A few days later, it came. When I started to read it, I came across a page that showed failed video game consoles. The Virtual Boy was listed in it. The magazine said it failed for making the user look like some kind of alien invader from mars. After that, I searched for it online. I found one that was around 65 dollars. I was going to buy it later, but I forgot about it. Later in the spring, I was looking for an N64 rumble Pak. I found a website that sold them for $3.00 each. I noticed that I should go to that website, because it looked like they had great deals for everything. I was right. When I was looking in the Nintendo section I found the VB. Okay, to make a long story short I bought it. 😕
