Ok, I’m starting with a sad one, but maybe you can find us some funny ones.

Poor Quality: Check
Common Game: Check
Outrageous price: mmmmm not really but still

Just look at this sad Teleroboxer. PLEASE, someone just buy it so it can be turned into a useful repro or something. looks like it was left out in the rain.

I’d love to see People add to this thread as sometimes there are some very humorous VB auctions put up, usually by people who don’t understand the system AT ALL. Like the time I saw a Boxed VB (in 2004) for $800 listed as “the rarest video game console I (yes, he said “I”) have ever heard of”. or people charging $40 for a copy of Mario tennis with a hole drilled in the upper left corner for some display reason I can only assume.

My favorite was still the virtual Boy I saw that had the stand and visor, an NES controller and two gameboy Advanced games. I’m not kidding.

$15.00 was a nice offer.

The biggest problem with the first seller is that if he has no clue what the item is worth, how will he know what offers should be accepted? The same, of course, goes for the second seller, who must think that the first seller actually has a chance of selling these at a high amount.

I saw a pair of these glasses sell for $40.00 recently, and I thought that was a ripoff and could not believe that someone actually paid that much for them. The seller who sold the glasses most likely thought that $40.00 was a very high amount and was trying to get the most out of them that he could, and somehow he happened to succeed.

These things are far too common. There were likely hundreds of thousands of these originally made and included with Nintendo Power Issue 75. A good chunk of the Nintendo Power #75 issues being sold on Ebay all the time probably include these glasses in very nice condition, so it would be best to contact a seller who is selling the magazine for a reasonable price and find out if the glasses are included and what their condition is.

I seen these glasses go for around $90 a few months back, without the book!

That’s smart to contact the seller. Mine belonged to someone who subscribed to the magazine so he may have them and not realize what they are. I think $40 is a bit high, and $90 definitely is too high (in my opinion). I based the value off the value of the magazine. One would think the glasses would be around the same value (or really less) than the magazine since they’re equally as ‘rare’.

Guys just to let you know if you want to see the images in “3d” you only have to get a pair of Chromatek glasses http://chromatek.com/. That is if you only want to view them and you don’t care if you have the VB glasses.

I was gonna say, “aren’t those pretty generic glasses you can buy at museum gift shops or craft stores?” I know I had a pair when issue 75 first came out and gave them to a buddy so we could read the issue at the same time.

But then again, Its all about the Virtual Boy branding I suppose; like those knock-off raybands that said “Virtual Boy” on the side, I would have payed close to $40 bux for those given the chance.

I appreciate you calling me a fool. Apparently you’re new to the Internet? I put the BIN at such a ridiculous price to attract attention. I have no intention of selling this for such a high price hence the “Best Offer”. I paid about $15 for the glasses and wasn’t sure what they were worth since it’s been awhile. You never can be too careful as I bought a copy of Wario Land back in 2008 for $5 and got a complete copy of jack Bros. with it for slow shipping on the sellers part. That turned out to be a $200 profit for me and I had no idea what it was worth either.

Hmmmm. I hear crickets. This is funny to me. I’m waiting for more verbal altercations, quite enjoyable! Please commence.

Maybe you should have concluded that they were worth $15.00.

Its Devil’s Advocate time! I wanna go on record and say I believe the asking price is way too high. That being said.

If someone puts something on ebay Virtual boy related. Like these glasses, for $40, $90 or even $999 and some dumb dumb is willing to pay because they don’t wanna wait for a pair to show up at $15. {While, I agree its sad that their impatient and wasting their money} Why is it an issue?

If no one wants to spend the money, it will just sit on Ebay forever, not being sold while other ones at lower prices will eventually appear & sell. If people don’t want it, they don’t have to buy it and the seller asking the high price will just sit there not profiting.

If he does profit, OK, he got what he asked for. It’s not like these people can’t google or use a computer to find out what these things are worth.

If I wanna sell a box of dog crap for $50 and some dummy will pay me $40 for it, {While a questionable act to do to someone} Isn’t that why Ebay is there? To sell a box of junk to whomever for whatever price they’ll pay?

Ben is right BTW, most of the issue #75 Nintendo Power Magazine’s on Ebay come with the glasses already in them, that’s how I got mine, ha!

Like John E Bravo, I too recall a pair of those glasses going for over $90 with bidders battling it out last year, so there are a lot of someones out there willing to pay for those things. Before I found mine, I messaged every seller that had that issue of Nintendo Power for sale, but every single one of them sounded like they had no idea what I was talking about. For months I searched. Luckily, mine finally came when I bought the full 1995 run as a bundle. Then I got another pair, and another until I had 5 sitting around. Seems like the first one was the hardest, then I couldn’t get rid of the spares fast enough.

I say, dream for the stars. Maybe some Richie Rich type who was deprived as a child will simply BIN instead of wasting the time to research or hope a cheaper one turns up. It’s more likely, some schmuck like myself, will decide to take up VB collecting and start grabbing everything he or she can as fast as they can and won’t be able to find one of these. When all other options are exhausted, the best offer option becomes more attractive and prices rise.

Besides, now that Jack Bros. has sold for over $800 four different times in the past 10 months, I’d say anything is possible.

Oh, it is definitely not an issue. Obviously, if you have something that you would like to sell, it makes sense to sell it to the person who is willing to pay the most for it. Nevertheless, this forum thread deals with “saddest” Virtual Boy auctions, so it is sad that Captain_Kelly originally paid almost $40, not the $15 that he mentioned in this thread (see: http://www.planetvb.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?post_id=15727#forumpost15727), for such a common item that many online sellers are willing to get rid of for dirt cheap all the time. Plus, it would be sad if someone paid a high amount for such a common item that sells for cheap along with the complete magazine on a regular basis.

I think the biggest problem in the case of these Nintendo Power glasses is that Virtual Boy fans too often search for “Virtual Boy” online and think that this covers all of the bases. Thus, if a person advertises these glasses with “Virtual Boy” in the title, the people searching all the time for “Virtual Boy” will think that a pair of the Nintendo Power 3D glasses is a rare item because it almost never appears in all of their “Virtual Boy” searches. This is because these people need to find this item better by searching for “Nintendo Power” and understand that these glasses are common items that appear in the common yet highly sought after Nintendo Power Issue # 75, while being sure to check with sellers that the glasses will be included with the magazine purchase before buying the whole package.

Geez… I wonder if this is evidence of the fact that more Nintendo NES fans are becoming Virtual Boy fans. Nintendo NES fans have been used to paying prices like that for several CIB NES titles for a while.
