I made my own two pronged screw driver out of some steel. I can not get those screws out that are deep, the 6 on the surface I got. I’d like to hear all the tricks anyone knows, and what size replacement screws should i buy? Thought about just carving slots in them with my rotary tool if I could get them out.

P.S. New to the forum, had a V Boy since I was 12, left screen started acting up so thats why I’m “trying” to take it apart. Any help appreciated as I know this is a common problem.

The games I own are the same ones I bought when I was 12, Wario Land, Red Alarm, Galactic Pinball, and Mario Tennis.

The two-pronged screwdriver is the way to go, but make sure the screwdriver you pick for the job is straight and true. A lot of cheaper screwdrivers are somewhat warped and won’t cooperate very well when attempting to access the deeper sockets on the device.

I’m not sure how screws are sized in your area, but the correct size screw in the US to replace the ones the system comes with are #4 and a half inch long. I prefer the ones with the flat heads because that makes it easier to get the screw into them when it’s time to do or undo them.

If you want to get a “store-bought” driver that “just works”, there’s only one (that I know of) on the market that fits the VB’s deepest screw wells:

Also, the screws are more specifically #4 x 1/2″ sheet metal screws. #4 wood screws have a tapered thread – which also generally stops before the head – and don’t provide good grip in the VB.

Well I just ordered that screwdriver, thanks for the link runnerback. I still know I can make one but it was only 6 bucks. Will post how it goes when I get it.

Well I got my screwdriver in the mail, wow that was easy compared to using a 2 pronged home made one.

I took it apart, examined the pcb/cable that was giving me problems put it back together and it was worse. So back apart and this time plugged everything in so it could run while apart (have to be very careful) and while not running removed the cable from motherboard and reinserted.

It’s working a lot better, very small glitch occasionally as this was a temporary fix. Will do a permanent fix when i have some flux and a better soldering gun.

On another note I think I will be replacing the screws with stronger ones. Wondering if tractor supply may have some that fit.
