Hi to all, having been interested in the Virtual Boy for many years but never deciding to take the chance and buy one (collection of many other consoles and not much time to enjoy them any more) I decided to purchase one for Christmas unboxed and with games. I’m very glad I did, as I was very impressed with the experience! So much so, that I decided to purchase another near new Japanese console as a ‘backup’…

I have been browsing the site for a while and finally decided to join up. I contacted Richard via his website and purchased a Flashboy Plus Saturday 25th February and I received it promptly today.

I was happy to part with the money, primarily due to his feedback here from many around the world and he obviously delivered as promised.

I look forward to enjoying the Virtual Boy and it’s community (Wife, Life and Baby Daughter permitting…!)

Welcome Jonny, you totally did the right thing, Flashboy is an essential for VB gamers. I like the backup VB being bought too, its something i will do at some point, I only own 1 for now but would like another for the same reason.
Its a cool little community, very helpful souls reside here should you need help anytime.

What game carts did you get with it?
Got a fav game so far?

Hi there, thanks for your reply!

I had read up on the display problems that can occur (and I had noticed the odd glitch in certain positions when the IPD is set) and like I said I was so impressed with the immersion, I decided to find a near new example with box etc to store.

I realise that these problems could occur with the newer unit also but I figured some redundancy in my plan and also would give me more impetus to open my original unit without fear of rendering it inoperative for good.

I bought the first U.S system with all unboxed games, which were WarioLand, Teleroboxer, Mario’s Tennis, Mario Clash, Galactic Pinball and Red Alarm. WarioLand is my favourite so far. The system stand did have the dreaded cracking so I’ll admit I have epoxied the stand in the open position and will use this one at anytime I have to ‘play’.

I have since purchased the 2nd Japanese system and have new copies (all Japanese) of Jack Bros, Mario’s Tennis, Red Alarm, V Tetris, Vertical Force, Galactic Pinball, Mario Clash and Teleroboxer. The stand on this system is in perfect condition and so will stay that way in the box!

I bought some of the clear plastic protector boxes to fit these new games to preserve and protect!

So in all, a bit of an indulgence in a short space of time..

Looking forward to exploring the software on offer to use with the Flashboy 🙂

Hey Jonny,

I can understand the “bit of an indulgence in a short space of time.” I go from knowing practically nothing about the Virtual Boy last April, to buying one just because I wanted to collect every Mario game for every system and had to get a Virtual Boy to do so, to buying incomplete copies of every game apart from the Japanese versions of games for which there were North American releases and apart from the “Big 4,” thinking that I would certainly never pay the money needed to acquire one of the “Big 4” games, to buying complete copies of every single game apart from the Japanese “duplicates” and the “Big 4,” still thinking that I would confidently keep myself away from them, to completely rejecting my conviction about the “Big 4” and buying complete copies of each of the Big 4 games, to going ahead and buying complete copies of all software, thus adding all Japanese versions of games to my collection, to going ahead and buying complete versions of all hardware, all by the end of December of last year, so in a space of not even 8 months of first getting into the Virtual Boy.

For some, the Virtual Boy is a dead system that deserved to die, for others, the Virtual Boy is a neat and cool system, for far less others, it is beyond compare to any other experience you will ever get and rises far above every other gaming system known to mankind. It’s no secret that I’m in the latter category.

By the way: if you haven’t found out yet, the “Big 4” are Space Invaders Virtual Collection, Virtual Lab, SD Gundam Dimension War, and Virtual Bowling. It’s wise on the wallet to stay away from them but tough for Virtual Boy fanboys (or fangirls) to keep themselves away from them.

Hi Benjamin,

Well I see that you have quite the Virtual Boy bug! To decide to acquire those high price titles is a big step for sure. I’m up to my spending limit for now (for now he says…) I think I’m likely to go for the rest of the affordable titles and more accessories/obscure items related to the Virtual Boy before I’d decide to complete with those 4. (I’d like one of the rental/carry cases) But it’s a nice goal to have, good for you to have made it. At least I may now get a chance to try them out for myself, aswell as the homebrew efforts thanks to the Flashboy Plus.

I completely agree with you regarding the different types of Virtual Boy fan. I would class myself in the latter category also to be honest from what I’ve experienced. It is a shame the manner in which the system failed and certainly didnt seem to have a deserved chance but hindsight is a fine thing.

Seems a great system to collect for and enjoy.

Jonny
