I had this dream that I was making a 3D game using a shoebox and cardboard and construction paper. When I woke up, I still had the elements of the game in my head so I was going to make an Atari 2600 video game about it when the idea hit me: This would be WAY more suitable for the Virtual Boy. So anyway, I didn’t have the whole idea in my mind, but a general theme was the game was like Checkers where you have these round pieces, and you move them around the boards. And during each turn, one could move up or down, or left or right as the board circumstances would let you, or move to a different layer. So anyway, this is a Virtual Boy mockup of what I had in mind. I know the boards look icky. I would redo them if I decide to go ahead with this project.

This looks like a great idea for a new game. This could result in something that could go viral.

It’s making me think about 3D Chess (Star Trek).

If you took out the “cross piece” in each ring, maybe you could make it a kind of 3-D Mancala derivative. Also, you could show the layers from a purely top-down view, and make them concentric (i.e. upper layer on the outside).

I was thinking while you were on one level..the other levels could turn wireframe and loose detail. Or you could use the other analog stick to ‘turn’ the board in 3-d so you can tell exactly where you were.

What I was thinking that that the board would be a wireframe like Red Alarm. How do they go about programming wireframe stuff? Something like the well in 3D Tetris, where you can turn the board around would be cool.

You should also utilize the unreleased Gamelink cable and have multiplayer! There should be many variants and boards for the game also!
