I’m getting some graphics artifacts that are blocky/ chunky. What stands out for me is that they are not scanlines per se (I had those and fixed them with the oven/tape), but rather look like a glitchy NES game.

My question is this: is this possibly a symptom of continued problems with the led ribbon cables? Or is it something else (like dirty connections with the cartridge)?

Also, I wondered if anyone had tried using something other than reheating, tape, or solder to fix a VB display? The two thoughts that I had were either 1) taping a small piece of cardboard to the led pcb to better hold the connection down, or 2) applying fresh glue to the cable (since the “rubber” glue doesn’t seem to get sticky when heated, just soft).

Thanks!

I tried a clamp thing. You can see the thread here.

Interesting . . . You mentioned that you redid it with plastic. Tell me, how thick/sturdy was it? Could I use, say, a cut-up NES game sleeve? Or would that be too flimsy?

The plastic I used as about 1/4 of inch thick. I used a longer screw to replace the Torx in the VB as with the plastic made the Torx screw too short.
