I would find a VB hard case a very useful thing to have, as I would like to be able to take my VB round to a friends house, and I dont wanna damage the original box!

From what I have seen, the hard cases on eBay are fairly ordinary boxes, but with a Virtual Boy sticker on them and foam inside cut out so a VB can fit in it.

I think these would be fairly easy to make ourselves. All we need is:

– a box (obviously!). Doesnt have to be an EXACT match.

– someone who has a box in mint condition to scan in the sticker on it so we can print it out on glossy paper and stick it on our home-made boxes.

– someone who has a box to take some close up photos so we can work out what shape and where to cut the foam. Or someone could produce a 1:1 scale drawing of the foam, that we could follow when cutting it.

Anyone else think this is a good idea?

Why should any do this? I’d only collect an original. My VB never changes places, so there is no need to protect it that way.

But apart from this it’s no bad idea!

There are plenty of generic video game system transfer cases that you could use to transfer the VB. I bought a Nuby one on clearance at KayBee Toys a few years ago for only 10 bucks that was meant to transfer the original PSone, but it fits my VB nice and snug.

Even for other systems, such as my Nintendo DS, I use a camera case that fits it perfectly and it’s ten times better than any “official” case you can buy in the store. Big camera or video camera cases would probably also work well for VB too.

If you have mony to burn you can always pick up a Pelican Case, we use the model 1550’s at work and they are great for custom camera equipment. But on the down side its about $120 to pick one up.

It’s REALLY hard to find a Blockbuster VB Hard Case with a sticker in mint condition. Every one I’ve seen has wrinkles, I’m guessing that the minimum wage guys in Blockbuster back rooms got cases and stickers separately and stuck ’em on, not too carefully, in their spare time.

Let me know your email address and I’ll send a hi-res scan of my best-condition label (it’s a 1-meg file).

Case outside dimensions are 14.5 x 18.5 x 6.5 inches. Inside foam is 12.5 x 16.5 x 4, with 1/2 inch foam glued to top and bottom of case. I can get photos if you want ’em.

I have a hard case with a perfectly mint sticker on it. Not even so much as a smudge. If I had a scanner, I’d scan it for ya. I may be getting a scanner in the near future though. I’ll keep you posted.
