Figures, I just go to play my virtual boy after I bought a new game and I notice a distortion in the right eye. It looks a lot like when an NES game isn’t loading properly. Just playing a jarbled image of what it should be playing. I thought the game might just have been dirty so I popped in another game and the same thing is happening.
Does anyone have a clue what this is? Or how to fix it?
Turns out I actually did that last night, but wasn’t sure if it was the same problem. It is only in the right eye, it isn’t a complete distortion (I heard a lot of talk about mirror images and this it is not) and will turn on and off at various times. Some screens it will work fine, others it will be bad until I press say start and then it will slide back into place for a few moments, and then go back crazy on the other screen.
That distortion in one eye happened to 3 different Virtual Boys I owned at one time or another.
I originally bought a VB back in 1995 on launch day. In 2003, the distortion began happening on the left eye of my eight-year-old VB. I thought it was just a fluke so I decided to buy another VB from a buddy of mine who didn’t play it anymore. That one lasted until about 3 months ago. Upset that this happened twice already, I then bought yet another VB off of eBay — but when it arrived at my door it had the same distortion in one eye! I was able to return it to the seller for a full refund (luckily). Then I ordered yet another VB off of eBay from a different seller about three weeks ago… so far this one is working okay.
I’m now on my 4th Virtual boy. I just wonder how long this one’s going to last for…
Almost the same happens to my VB. Today I received a Teleroboxer game purchased in ebay, and as soon as I opened I rushed to my beloved VB unit to try it. Everything was fine during the calibration an intro, but when the start screen appeared the VB started to show a distortion of lines in the right eye, sometimes even showing only lines against a black screen. At first I tought that the problem was with the game, but I tried every VB game that I have and the problem persist.
So, is there any way to fix it? Was the the teleroboxer the one that broke my VB? BTW, my VB is a US unit, like all my games, and it’s battery powered.
