Hey Everyone!
Incase anyone hasn’t seen, I’ll be doing some batches of reproductions of some Virtual Boy games. (more can be found here –> http://www.planetvb.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=6766&forum= ) I’m in works of seeing if I can get ahold of the guy responsible for Hyper Fighting. It’s no easy task, and It may just be easier to locate a proto of dragon Hopper :P.
BUT if I do get a hold of him, and I do get his blessing, curious, who would be seriously interested in a physical production of the game? I’m not sure of a price yet, depends on what I find out. But if I get the okay, and the ROM. I plan to release it with a newly designed label (which will help tell my batch from previous ones, plus I like the design I made more :P)
It’ll be cart only, but I’ll let Uncle Tusk use the artwork for him to create a box and manual for the game to help people get a CIB copy as well as let people who want just cart only to be cart only (In exchange I’ll just ask him for a free set for myself :P)
Just getting a feel for demand and a head count. I’ll keep you all posted from what I find out
Thanks!
~Johnny
(If this falls through, my first game will end up being Gundam SD English)
It’s all good. I knew exactly what you meant and it’s a fair question… just can’t help my smartass tendencies sometimes π Someone can jump in if I was wrong about the version, but I”m pretty sure I’ve read that before so I think it’s correct (also, since no one jumped in yet to correct me). Anyway, I was always (and still am, I suppose) an SNES man myself. It’s possible to make a passive SNES-to-VB adapter without *too* much difficulty too, so that’s an awesome way to play the game on VB! Not sure if it would work with a Genesis 6-button, but I’m guessing it would need a microcontroller or something.

Thanks. I guess I should have been more clear – I am familiar with SF II (who isn’t???), but I wasn’t sure if it was the arcade version (unlikely), the SNES, or some other console. I was a big fan of the Genesis, but I wasn’t into fighting games at the time, so didn’t own this game. Might have to pick up a copy of the Genesis version.

The game is supposed to play almost exactly the same as “Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting” for the SNES. At least, that was my original request for the game. Hence, “Hyper Fighting” simply takes the last part of the original title from the SNES version. Although, some of the character backgrounds that appear in Hyper Fighting are different than the backgrounds that appear in Street Fighter II Turbo, so those backgrounds must have been taken from later Street Fighter games. I’m pretty sure those backgrounds also do not appear in the Genesis version of Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition. Nevertheless, the opening sequence of Hyper Fighting does very closely match what appears in Special Champion Edition. It’s also very important to understand that the AI of all of the fighters in the game was made completely from scratch, so the enemies do not fight the same as in any previous version of Street Fighter 2 ever made. I like to think of the game as a completely original fighting game with largely a Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting skin, with some skin elements added from other Street Fighter games thrown in.

Thanks for that info. I had thought it was just a direct port (to the extent the VB would allow), but this makes the game even more interesting.
Now, how do I get MY face immortalized in a videogame???
Hey Everyone,
Just stopping in, don’t want you to feel like i abandoned this. I still very much want to do this, and working on a few loose ends. I’m currently in the middle of packing up my house, moving it into storage, renovations, moving into another house, more renovations, and then finally moving into my new house. So it’s been super busy, I’m real sorry about the wait.
Soon I’ll start taking pre-pre-orders, where I’ll collect everyone’s name and email address and make a spreadsheet of everyone interested. Then I’ll create a mailing list and keep everyone in touch that way (using a BCC to make sure everyone’s email is hidden from the others).
It’ll make it easier for me as well as a few other reasons.
I’ll keep you posted!
Sorry again for the delay
~John
Glad to hear this isn’t dead, very much looking forward to all of the repro’s you end up doing.
Hey John, life happens so no big deal on the delays, just glad to hear it’s still supposed happening.
Best of luck on the moves and storage, etc. I’ve done that more than I care to mention, and I’m planning to die at my current home if at all possible, as I’m not looking to move again. LOL
Is too late to chime in and say I’m interested in a copy. If not, please put me on the list!
Is this still in the works? Please include me if it is, dying to play this game. Thanks!!
I would love to get a full copy of Hyper Fighter. The demo is such an amazing display of what is possible with a Vb.

Any update? I’ts been about 2 months, hoping this project is still alive π
well, unless I manage to get a copy by than I would also love at least 1 copy. The original is still the holy grail… but any physical copy would be heaven.
But personaly I would not only change the label but also mark it inside the rom so people can not relabel them and sell them for the original batch.

I hope I’m wrong, but I think this project is dead.
I’ve been thinking the same π
