Due to a bad design choice made by Nintendo, every Virtual Boy will sooner or later suffer from faulty displays that show horizontal or vertical lines or are messed up in other ways. This is due to the cables leading to the displays being held in place by glue rather than proper solder connections. In case your Virtual Boy shows the typical symptoms, here’s a list of nice guys who offer their services to permanently fix your console(s) by soldering the display cables.

PlanetVB has an associated facebook group of sorts called Virtual Boy Fans Unite! and in there is a member Chris Snead. He will do the work for $10 an eye + return shipping. He does as good as anyone else can in doing the solder repair with a very fast turn around too.
Is anyone still willing to fix VB lenses? In desperate need. Thanks.
I’ve done 3-4 few ebay rescues and have gotten a very high degree of sucess so long as the cable is still attached to the board and nothing else is damaged. I’m willing to do repairs for others. Go on and add me to the list. I’ll charge $10 per display plus return shipping. See attached photo for an example of my work

Thank you to TheForce81 for soldering my VB ribbons. The games look so clear now. Great job!
Hi,
I’m based in the UK & recently bought a Japanese VB which turns out to have issues with the right display. It has lots of vertical lines running through it which from reading up on here suggests the ribbon needs sorting.
Can anyone recommend someone UK based who can help me out please?
I’ve been educated on how to do the solder fix and performed my first successful one this night. My soldering game has raised quite a bit from batteries, popped wires, and chip swapping old carts considering the delicacy of it all. I didn’t bacon warp the ribbon or any other common blunders at all either thankfully. 😀
I’ll be doing another one tomorrow night if plans work out.

Massive thanks to theforce81 who fixed my faulty ribbon for me. He did a very tidy job & was very helpful with all my questions.
Highly recommended
Looking for either a quote for repair (well, my unit works but want to future proof) against glue issues on the ribbons, in the USA, or someone in Europe.
I would probably invest in the screwdrivers to open and remove the display units, as I have had this since it was released (shipped from the states to the UK) and am super protective of my beloved VB.
Price for work and return shipping to England please?
My email is arthur_gill@hotmail.com
Many thanks in advance for the above and if possible from the community, personal recommendations, as I see a few people offering their services. What was the quality of work like when you got your display units back?
Joined forum to find someone who could help with repair.
Just got a VB, and right lens glitches out shortly after power up. Looking for a quote for repair. Thanks!
I posted in the marketplace thread, but does anyone know of anyone doing repairs all the way down here in Australia?
I just got my ribbon cables repaired by Chris Snead. He can be found on Facebook and part of the Group Virtual Boy Fans Unite! His work is professional grade and my VB is now crystal clear. I have attached a photo showing the quality of his work… The best part is he only charged me $20 for the pair! I would highly recommend him to anyone. Very upfront, honest, respectful and reliable.

Were we able to find someone who does screen repairs in Australia? Mine has just started with the horizontal lines on the right side.
I created a solution for this, and will ship worldwide. See the Virtual Ribbon:

Is anyone able to do a solder fix on one screen unit for me?
I’m in the UK but can send anywhere.
Thanks.
