I saw a Virtual Boy on Seinfeld. It was season 8 Episode 1. “The foundation”. It was behind George in his apartment when the guests arrived. They wanted to start a foundation in honor of Susan.

I just spotted it, too.

The episode “The foundation” is on Youtube. I had to see it again to be sure. Nice pic. Did you notice it before the post? I happened to see it on television.

Nope, I wasn’t aware of it prior to the post.
It was nice seeing the Virtual Boy make an appearance on such a famous television show.
I remember reading on this site there was a Virtual Boy also spotted on Frasier. Seinfeld and Frasier were both NBC. I wonder if it was the same Virtual Boy? I don’t really know very much about Frasier. Were they both on in the same year? I am going to research.

That’s an interesting observation… I didn’t think about both of them being on NBC. NBC was part of the Must See 3-D thing: http://www.planetvb.com/modules/advertising/?k2 , so maybe they were sneaking them into the episodes for some subliminal advertising… or maybe they made a deal with Nintendo to give it air time.
DogP
All very interesting. I wonder if other NBC shows had Virtual Boys in them? Maybe they had them on set so others could enjoy and experience. They just thought it cool enough to leave in during filming. Or the live audience would have seen them.

Found that one, too. Given the fact that the Virtual Boy is shown right next to Frasier’s head as the camera is zoomed in as he goes to pick up the “Living Brain” toy, it seems that this was a definite, planned advertising spot for the Virtual Boy in the episode, supporting DogP’s conclusion that NBC was intentionally advertising the Virtual Boy in its shows at the time.
So, anybody find out what other shows aired on NBC around that time? The treasure hunt continues!

Here are some more shots of the Virtual Boy behind George’s head in the Seinfeld episode.

I watched a must see tv promo on youtube. During a friends promo it showed someone in a video store. Sorry I can’t remember who was who. It had a large Donkey Kong statue type thing in the video store. This was in a 1995. I typed in “NBC must see tv 1995” on youtube. Here is a list of some NBC shows on in 1995: Friends
Mad About You
Hope and Gloria
Madmen of the People
The Single Guy
Caroline in the City

Well, if Nintendo and NBC truly wanted a lot of people to see the Virtual Boy in one of the shows, then it makes sense that they would have chosen “Friends” to put it in, since that was one of the highest rated shows at the time. I really like that show, too, so I might just go ahead and watch the season that aired in 1995 and see if I can find a Virtual Boy anywhere.
I don’t really watch The Big Bang Theory, but for some reason I could picture someone on that show having one as part of a retro fad.
I feel like I’ve seen the VB elsewhere on TV but can’t remember where now. It may have been repurposed as a cheap movie prop, I’ve seen various Nintendo items spraypainted and used as scenery in high-tech space ships or whatever 🙂
Also, this is kind of different but didn’t the VB show up on Pawn Stars too? I can see it now, some brief intro to the system for the show’s viewers explaining that it failed for the seizure outbreaks it caused. There were some units popping up on ebay with ‘Pawn Stars’ in the title, so I assumed that was the reason…never saw it myself though.
Yeah there was one on Pawn Stars. It had a glitchy display but they didn’t seem to notice and bought it anyway.
That is strange you said that. I don’t really watch Big Bang Theory either but was thinking the same thing a couple days ago. I happened to be watching an episode. I looked in the background at all the different items. Seems like a Virtual Boy would be right at home there.
