I’ve been pretty quiet lately but it’s only because I’ve been crazy with foster kittens and fixing display issues on my current VB. I scored 2 beaten up systems for parts/repair and one is gonna go to fixing my original and the other is gonna be converted into a Virtual Girl. Thanks to some member’s here that created the VB font and some members that gave the inspiration, it looks like it might just happen. I have a spare controller that I want to add the logo to. Here’s a quick concept:

*sigh* These @#$%&*@$#*$&@ vinyls still have not come in. I still have until tomorrow but I am having my doubts that it will show up. I’ve ordered things from double the distance and received it in 2 days. To top it off, these were supposed to be sent with tracking but then I get an email saying they were too busy to do it so they just mailed them out normally again with nothing so it only adds to my feelings that these things are never gonna show up :'(
At this point it’s just better to cut my losses and have a professional do it. This is what I get for trying to help out a new, small business. It’s a person I know that owns and runs the damn business as well. Such a lack of professionalism.
Reminds me of a story I have trying to repair a Compaq Portable I (I collect old PC clones as well and am active on the Vintage Computer Forums). For those who do not know, the Portable I, while a rugged machine, is notorious for keyboard problems that have developed as the machine aged due to the foam pads inside each keycap degrading. I am one of those unfortunate souls with a Portable I whose keyboard met that fate.
I will not name names (In general, I really don’t enjoy causing conflict), but I paid a decent price for a one-man business who owns (?!) a CNC milling machine to create a new 101-pad set, so that I can refurbish the keyboard to it’s previous condition. This was in January… I have still not received it. Every month or so however, I will email him to get a status report, and he’s has at least respond to acknowledge that he still knows that I need the kit. The Portable I is the only vintage computer purchase that I regret since I started collecting 4+ years ago.
That said, my advice is to be patient, keep reaching out to them, and coerce them into finishing the job they started (and are financially obligated to finish).
Sorry to hear you’ve been jerked around with your items as well (even though from a diff supplier).
I’m in constant contact with the person and it’s excuse after excuse. I’m just waiting to hear what today’s excuse is going to be when the vinyls don’t show up AGAIN.
I’ve decided on Monday I am going to contact my usual vinyl supplier to see how much it would cost to have these graphics made. I lost money on this but, I suppose that’s how the dice rolls sometimes.
I’l keep posting updates on this vinyl nonsense as they develop
My vinyls FINALLY arrived! My envelope looked like someone lost it up their hoo-hah for a damn year but I finally got it. After MONTHS of waiting for these 2 tiny graphics, I can finally say this project is aesthetically done (gotta get the displays working again).
I finally present to you, the Virtual Girl!

Looking great. There have been some recolored VirtualBoys in the past but this one is the best so far. Also nice to hear that the vinyls arrived after all.

Thanks for the kind words. I was about to give up on it because of those damn vinyls. I originally ordered the ones where I could paint the logo on myself but I’m guessing that was too difficult for the vinyl people to do. Whatever, I got the logos on now and it looks so much better now that its complete.
It looks great!
I think it take a lot of work.
“Virtual Girls” are verry rare.
I remember i bought my first VB from a woman in germany who bought their VB as a child on vacation in the USA.
Thank you 🙂
I wish it didn’t take me so long to finish but now that it’s done, I gotta agree it really does look nice.
The Virtual Boy was never released in Europe right? That’s awesome you were able to grab one for yourself 🙂
I am not a huge fan of the color, but great job on the mod, looks very professional! This could very well be an official special edition VB. :vb:
Great job!
It definitely looks girly, that’s for sure 😉
I agree with KR155E; the finish looks quite professional.
