I keep wondering why there are so few high score entries on this game while it is considered the best game on the Virtual Boy. Any thoughts on this?

I find it too hard and frustrating at times. I think Galactic Pinball and Red Alarm are much better, but then again I haven’t beaten it yet.

Laziness. I did a speed run a few years back, I just never bothered to submit my times.

That and there’s no real scene for high scores in the community.

^Laziness here too, actually.
That and I want to work on my time, though 1st place seems like too much of a challenge to takeover :O

I’m also stuck on the “hard mode” in the game. Too hard, imo

A review for Wario Land. It’s positive, but the reviewer is hung up on the fact that it’s on virtual boy. Also he wondered where the 3D effects are, why it doesn’t take advantage of the virtual boys capabilities. I guess he only has one eye, because there is depth, layering, and in the treasure rooms a nice 3D depth effect. Also, there’s the jumping into the background part.
And why does it being on VB and not being fully “virtual reality” somehow take away from the game being good? Megaman 9 is great on the PS3 even though it’s made like a 8-bit NES game. A good game is a good game!

The person who reviewed the game seems to me like he was just looking for a reason to complain about the game, just beacause it’s on Virtual Boy.

Ad far as high scores go, I love Wario on VB. That’s the problem, I took my time and enjoyed the game…

I suppose any of us could waste our time going at it with a speed run, but I’d rather go for a “real” skill based highscore.

Maybe I’ll tackle a speed run at it when it’s 23 years old.

If it makes you feel any better, I recently just added a new top time! 😛

But man though, what an awesome game! It’s got great levels, secrets all over the place, makes great use of the 3D effects (and not crazily over doing it), catchy tunes, and has elements unique to almost all the levels. I love it!

Also, I too just begun the hard mode… and I can’t beat the first boss! Seems Wario just can’t run faster than the boss can throw the spiked ball on his head. Is there something I’m just overlooking? :\

I know your feeling about the first boss, it is a hard one in hard mode. Thanks for beating my highscore as well 😛
