I found footage of on youtube, and it got me really excited. Are the programmers ever going to complete the game?

people have been able to resize games before to make them work on flash carts, like star ocean on snes theres a hack that resizes it to fit on an everdrive. theres other hacks like that too.the curiousity thing is like saying theres no point in playing wario on vb because there are games of his in color. the vboy has a charm of its own and it would be great to be able too play this gem.
Not the same thing at all because VB Wario Land is a completely different game and is absolutely fantastic.
As someone who converted a vitual boy controller to USB and typically plays all his virtual boy games on mednafen using a 3D tv, I really hope this rom becomes available at some point. While I love my vitual boy, I just like the comfort of being able to sit on my couch and play all my games so I haven’t used it in years. Plus all my emulators for just about every system up through the PS2 are all on my HTPC, so it’s just easier to use it to play virtual boy games too. Even though the rom might not be too useful for most, it would be perfect for someone like me so there are still those of us that would love to see the final thing in person. My fingers will remain crossed…
I get that it’s unlikely to be put up for sale but how did people end up with copies of this?
Reading the comments on the news story it seems there are a few copies out there. I figure a small amount were made by someone and then sent out to people they knew, but in one of his comments Lester mentions picking up two copies, suggesting there was at some point an opportunity to order. Did Tusker stick up an order page for half an hour?
That connecting a SNES controller seems like a cool feature although the VB controller (based on the demo) works well – Mortal Kombat Armageddon did something similar with the Wii version when using a Wiimote.
It wasn’t on uncle tusk at all. A select few were approached and given an opportunity. What criteria was involved I’m not sure, but I’m assuming you had to be the type of person who collects for the right reason (ie not for profit), knowing the right people would have helped too. I also donated to MK a while ago, but I don’t think that was really considered(although it did land me a spot in the credits =P)
Very few could be made, so unfortunately, not everyone who deserved one could get one.

This really isn’t a huge conspiracy, but the names will be withheld. Some people decided to put the game on a cart if it was ever finished. It was, so they did. A full package was created and a possible price was set. At first it was more of a dream to try and get the game completed, and it was never set up to turn a profit for those involved. Last I heard a few CIB were in the wild. If I am allowed to give specific numbers then I will, but I need to ask first. I was given the opportunity to reserve 2, if I wanted, as I do believe everyone else was as well. They weren’t cheap. I can tell you that. From what I know very few bought 2. It really had nothing to do with being any certain type of person or collector. It was more if you happened to stumble into it and if you had the money to afford a copy.
Eventually these are going to make their way for sale. I have no doubt about that. Someone will want to turn a profit, or simply just hook up someone else with a copy. Eventually this ROM will be dumped (if not released), because of how rare this cart is and how few are in private hands. The quality of this homebrew turned out so high that it has already created a demand beyond what everyone assumed. People are signing up just to ask if they can get a ROM. What I would like to see happen is a stripped down version released (no voices, less music, no 2-player, etc) that would fit onto a FlashBoy. Leaving the full version with the 2-player mode limited to the cart, so that the cart can retain its value.
Thank you for clearing up the details. Weather the game was even finished is what drove me here as there was no information public about it, and after seeing that it indeed was I got curious about the additional details, and now I know.
A ROM for flash boy or even emulator would be very nice. like you said if some of the things like 2 player and additional speech/music (keep guiles theme in both 🙂 ) it could probably be sized down, and it would still keep those copies you guys have special with the unique features. that way everyone wins and can enjoy the game. I have seen similar limited release fan projects get scalped and after the sworm of interest on youtube and from gaming enthusiasts all across the internet, a ton of people want to play this game, and someone will eventually put one on ebay for an obscene price.
The programmer worked too hard for the game to remain hidden.
Thanks for clearing that up speedy and Lester. Sorry if my post came across as suggesting a conspiracy – that wasn’t my intention. There just seemed to be a piece of the puzzle missing and I was scratching my head trying to figure out what I’d missed.
I am very disapointed to be honest.
They made one of the best Games for the VB ever, doing some kind of secret very limited run of a production, some guys teasing it like hell but in the end we have nothing and not even a chance to buy a copy.
Color me as another interested gamer if this ever has another print 🙂
If not, it’s cool to have seen videos of it!
Just in case you did not notice the thread; I copied the information here.

You see, Mr. Anon really made my wildest dreams come true, for not only can I play my favorite one-on-one fighting game of all time on my favorite video game system of all time, but I can do so as myself, who has all the abilities of the character I’m best with, Ken. Thus, no longer must I play as Ken, for I can now play as myself, Ben!
The game was always a personal project and never intended for anyone else besides Ben; he was kind enough to allow us to play a demo though.

To be clear, I am not at all upset that others are enjoying this great game, though I very likely paid much more for it to be made than anyone else.
He paid out of his own pocket for this game to be made, then either Mr.Anon went and contacted people or they contacted him. But it was never intended to be played by other people…

It must be understood that this was just supposed to be a private project between me and Mr. Anon. Now, I myself have no idea if Mr. Anon is getting any money from the distribution of the copies of these CIB games, but I am fully convinced that if I had told Mr. Anon to make an original one-on-one fighter for the Virtual Boy, he would have done an amazing job and wouldn’t have had to worry about copyright laws at all if he then chose to sell and distribute copies of his game.
It should have remained private; so it was wrong that people beyond Ben have a copy in their collection. I for one am disappointed in the trust being broken.

I also want to make it perfectly clear that I will never give anybody a copy of the ROM of the finalized game, as I will have no part in its distribution, so it is best for one not to waste one’s time asking.
There will never be a ROM release for the full game, as it was always meant to be only Ben’s because he paid for it to be a private item.
