Fixing it depends on if the VB you got with the stand is the one that is to it.
Any display VBs has a different type of serial number sticker if I’m recalling right than the one you could buy.
If you have the VB that came with the stand from Big N than it is prob worth at lest trying to fix it. If some one already switched the display VB out for a consumer VB than just switch them.
It is the common ribbon cable problem. “The VB Glitchy Display Problem” Planet VB’s forum it the best place to start. Oven method will most like work best unless your realy good at soldering.
I’m sure that you tried other games if you have them. All I can think of is to make sure that any caps didn’t below. Also the VB game connector.
To look at the game connector. Take off the serial number cover. Once off look down it and you will see what looks like the end of a VB game. You can push this in carefully with 2 tooth picks.
Well when I was having probs with a batt pack I would get the red led to come on but never would power up fully. With my AC tap the VB worked just fine. I would look in side the batt pack with a bright light and make sure you have no corrosion inside.
I’ve had that when I was fixing my glitchy display. If you think it could be a bad display. Play if you have them Mario Clash *Just Clouds Intro* or Golf *Main screen*. These games will show the first sign of a bad display.
Mario Clash *Just Clouds Intro* or Golf *Main screen* use almost all of the LEDs in each eye. If the flat flexible cable is comming off you can see it clearly. There will be lines but they will fade as the LED will shut off and the other will dem.
With Golf you can sit at the main screen and watch for flicker of scrambled graphics.
I took note of this too. I’m looking for some games, would like a hard case but 100USD that I’ve seen lately is way too much. The few soft cases I’ve seen have beer around 30USD to 40USD.

i don’t expect to find a VB at a thrift shop anytime soon.
Funny. I got my first VB at a thrift shop for 15USD with bunch of video game things in it. The VB was missing the stand and visor but had Wario Land.
Well, It been some time since I did the clamp fix. I end up about after a week or two making the clamps out of plastic as the wood clamps I made would move do to temp changes. The clamp fix has work fine since I made them out of plastic.
Best of luck ony any of your Glitchy Display fixes!

Cool a clamp works, I had thought a while back about using a clamp but had never needed to try as my VB works fine. I have been looking for a broken VB to try and fix with a clamp method, then if the clamp did work I could maybe get a batch made and sell them through the site. I’m pleased you have got results, maybe next year I’ll try to get a busted VB, funds is short so got to wait.
Do you find it causes any problems or clashing etc adjusting the focus or IPD?
No problems as of yet. Focus and IPD work, no clashing that I can tell of.
I’ll have to make some pic of how my clamps look and post them in the next few days.

Not bad since the Visor alone is work that much….
Man, I remember that I got my first unit for $20 shipped, and it still had all the pieces intact (foam visor, battery pack, unbroken stand) and came with 2 games. My “broken” unit was $5 shipped, and then I think I picked up the controller for $10 with an AC adapter. Prices sure have spiked recently…
As of late. The Visor is 22 to 35 + Shiping. Stand is about the same if not more from some people. A/C pack is 20 to 40 + Shiping. Some time you can get the SNES plug with the pack. 20 to 30 on Batt pack + Shiping.
I got my A/C pack, SNES Plug and a Controller for 20 + Shipping. This is why I have a spare controller now.

Very cool idea! Glad you found something that worked for you, it looks like a pretty permanent solution that’s also easily reversible. I’d be afraid to do that because of alignment issues, but then again I’ve hardly ever heard of people having problems with that.
It’s really an annoying problem to fix, even though there are many possible solutions. I wish Nintendo had just used better glue to begin with…
By the way, how much did you pick up the unit for?
There was no alignment issues. I just press on the cable tell I had a line-less and bright screen. Than put my clamp over it. I’m thinking this may make the Oven Method a permanent fix. The clamp should keep the cable in place even if the glue fails again.
Nintendo should have done what they did on the main board and not used glue.

I have a working VB and this was just part for it but now that it works I’m going to build this one up to a full unit. I have already began to adapt the broke stand to take a camera tri pod. I have a controller for it. I just need a Batt pack or AC pack for it now.
