So, I’m also very skeptical of this story and limited info, but I would just like to point out that the blurry picture is different from the one in the PVB Dragon Hopper vault (linked in an earlier reply). Obviously, the middle part is the same but the number and size of the hearts on the right side is different and the coins appear to be 3 in one picture and 5 in the other. I’m not naive and know this could easily be photoshopped, but at first glance I thought they were identical and shared in the anger of the other replies… until I realized they were not actually identical.

I still had this on my list of retro projects I’m tracking from back in 2018 when you started talking about it! I would be interested in this and probably option 3. I’m sure the setup isn’t that big a deal, but saving my personal time is something I’m willing to pay for these days for some things. My main concern is that it would look good in anaglyph on a modern TV so you still get the 3D effect. To each their own, of course, but for me I’m not interested in playing VB games in 2D, so I never pursued a Virtual Tap/Consolizer option for VB.
You would think for $15,000 they could take some pictures with something better than a 20 year old flip phone.

a single black line is a dead led on the board. its not your ribbon
I have a system that I got the permanent solder fix for about 4 or so years ago (by a skilled member of PVB, not some eBay hack) and it had worked fine but recently now has a single dead line in one display and I had been meaning to ask this too.
So it sounds like that LED board is shot and just needs to be replaced? (i.e. can’t be repaired somehow?)
Wow, what amazing work! I feel like this has been one of the holy grails regarding the VB’s future. While $20 isn’t super cheap, it’s not at all prohibitively expensive, though I realize labor would add cost too. Point is, it’s good to know there is already another option for a future time when donors are more expensive and/or hard to source.
Bumping this thread just for a check-in. I wonder if anyone has anything to add that they are working on these days?
Welcome to PVB! I am a backer of this project and I intend to get more some more in addition to the “package” I picked to cover my homebrew, English translations, FlashBoy+… plus have a few to grow on. I, for one, have never been happy with my VB cart storage options and was thrilled you are making this happen!
As for covers, dig through all the posts and links on the below thread and I think you will get most of what you are looking for (lots of links to other sources for you to sort out):

These are all things that were posted publicly on PVB, so I presume everyone would be cool with you using the stuff they made for this purpose, but it might be cool to PM folks just to be sure.
Welcome back! Hopefully someone here has one that they can spare, but if not RetroDan has said he intends to do another run in the future. He has asked for patience though because his run is not eminent so keep an eye on the below thread if you don’t get a board from the community now.
Semi-related… if the battery is no longer holding score and unlocks data, you can manually unlock those modes as well. See the below thread.

Yes, that reeks of scam. $110 is way to low for what’s being offered, but too high for “random person ended up with one and doesn’t know what it’s worth” but the feedback and pictures are a dead giveaway.

Some sort of scam, or at least something very fishy, occurred there. The seller of the $110.00 auction had zero feedback, and that seller used the same photos from this previous auction:
Well done dude… I just logged in so I could post about this. It’s not my KS either and I don’t own any of his other books, but I did meet him at a game convention last year and flip though a couple of them. He was cool and they seemed very well done, so backing this was a no-brainer for me.
Thanks very much, but I did end up acquiring that game and manual so I’m good. I appreciate the follow-up though.

I have recently acquired a spare vertical force and manual. The cart sticker is faded. No dust cover. I would do 40 shipped paypal goods or I’d knock off whatever the fees are from the price if you wanted to do friends and family. The case pictured is not included.
Yep, that’s about right. He did get back to me today, which I appreciate. He was looking for north of $2500, which is apparently not that far off from the eBay prices y’all have shown. So I can’t blame him and am glad he actually followed up with me, but I’ll never have one if that’s what it costs. I want one bad and love the VB dearly, but can’t think of any object I collect that I would pay that much for. To each their own though. Guess I’m just going to have you hope one of you wills one to me out of the goodness of your heart (or else I get it at the estate sale) 🙂

in other words, price check: astronomical!
Welp. Same @speedyink. I was hoping the answer was $500 or $600. Who knows… this dude might have been one of those folks that paid $2000+ or maybe he got it years ago… idk. Well, I guess we will see. If I even get a shot at it all they can say is no and I’m no worse off than I am now, I guess. I want one of these, but not $2000+ bad. Not even close. You can bet I’ll post it here first if I do swing a deal though! Thanks for all the input and in advance for anything anyone else adds.
I’m not sure if he has found a buyer yet, but I just wanted to post that I did a high-value-item deal with Fred and it went off without a hitch. Since I paid first, I was taking the risk, but he was extremely open and confirmed his identity in multiple ways before I sent the payment, so I felt comfortable with the deal.
The game arrived quickly and as described. Unfortunately, numerous life experiences have made me cynical about people I don’t know, so the first thing I did was test the game and also open it up to make sure it was an original board. Sure enough, it played great and eveyrthing it was legit.
Based on my communication with Fred and my the deal we made going go smoothly, I recommend him. I’m very happy with our deal and interactions. He genuinely seems like someone just trying to find a good home for their stuff at a reasonable price, so at least for our deal, everyone was happy in the end!
Didn’t @RunnerPack make some homebrew flex cables, or am I thinking of something else? Maybe he was working on that? Seems like they were gold colored. Maybe I’m misremembering though. Try asking him or searching his posts maybe, I say, and sorry in advance if I’m incorrect.
Well following up on my earlier post, Mr. Collins is on the case designing a 3D printable box to store VB games. Can anyone with very accurate measurement equipment take the dimensions of a game with the dust cover on it? I’m sending him one so he can do fit checks for his design but getting him the dimensions earlier could help the process along quicker.
How about a #VirtualBoy game storage case? I still need to get final measurements of the game height with a dust cap on it, can anyone provide that information to me? pic.twitter.com/x1PFXaaRnf

I agree with @speedyink. With a rare few exceptions, this community is very supportive and positive. It’s not like he was scamming us or anything and I’m sure he intended to do what he set out to do. Everyone who backs a project like that knows you are taking a risk because it is an individual subject to own constraints and potential personal issues… it’s not like we hired Microsoft to write us an application. It’s ok to be disappointed but no need to be mean spirited, I would say.
I just checked and I *did* get charged last month as usual, so I don’t think he has cancelled the Patreon. I’ve been backing him since he started with a fair amount in total but he has gone totally dark so it’s probably time to pull back. Too bad. I had such high hopes for the project but no updates of any sort for months is no way to maintain your support.
