I was thinking the same thing! Wonder if this is an anomaly or not? It almost seems strange it was never discovered because it really isn’t that complicated of an input like say, the Konami code, but I guess you are always trying to get past that damn auto pause screen as quickly as possible to start the game, so in that way, I see how it got missed.
I love when new stuff like this turns up in old games. Reminds me of the Punch-Out!! tells from the original NES game that have been discovered/revealed in the past couple years.

We should start messing around on all Automatic Pause screens in every Virtual Boy game to see if we can find Hidden menus like this one for Nester’s 😉
That sounds great! It will be very interesting to see how this works out!

Great ideas! I so want this to become a real thing!
Again, this is an effort I would support! But again, my support would probably just be financial. If only the VB could run NASTRAN decks… then I would have something meaningful I could contribute to the community! 🙂
I have been wishing for this for a long time! I was super momentarily excited when I saw your topic! 🙂 Unfortunately, I don’t have any of the skills required for such a project, but I know many people on here do! I would be all too willing to help crowdfund a project like this though! I think it would be a great alternative way to experience the games (not to mention awesome for when I’m on travel).
Maybe a special area of the website or a pinned forum topic should be created for posting reels so everything is in one place and not scattered around various topics.

Thanks, both of you! 😀
Soon, we can exchange our reels on the virtual schoolyard! Without having to ask the adults (programmers) every time 😉
Tool + tutorials are on the way …
These are awesome! I hadn’t seen this post on here before. I love that picture of Ken Griffey Jr. play VB. He was always my favorite (baseball) players as a kid so this picture is a marriage of two of my favorite things!
Plus you get the 15 year member badge and have 0 posts, even though I’m literally reading your post. What dimension are you from, anyway?

I had a strange issue as well, I ended up stuck in a loop after registering where the site said I wasn’t confirmed so it goes to reload the page, then it says the same thing after redirecting, again and again…I eventually got out of it by going into another browser (started in Chrome went to Firefox if I remember correctly) and resent the confirmation email.
Also, my profile says I’ve been a member since 1970, so… that’s a thing.
Edit: I’m a time traveler! Now it’s 1969!
Yea, it’s unfortunate because it seems unlikely there is anyone around that would actually care in the slightest or be vested at all in it being released or not released. Seems like releasing it would be a tiny risk, but that’s easy for me to say I suppose since I’m not the one taking that tiny risk.
Well that response was more encouraging than I expected, I suppose. I thought no response or a super generic shutdown was most likely. It’s clear they actually read your email and typed a unique response.
I’m sure the client info is confidential, but maybe you could request that they contact the client on our behalf and that we would be willing to pay the client for releasing the ROM. I’m sure we could whip up some funds in the community if all the interested persons pitched in. Or maybe the client would just release it if they saw the PlanetVB website and what a devoted, rabid fan base we have here.
Otherwise, yea… seems like trying to appeal to the woman is our only hope.
I wonder if we could crowdfund a fund to get them to release it? Maybe an envoy for the community could contact them and hang that out there and tell them all about us and if they saw there was such a rabid community that we have here they would just do it anyway. One thing life has shown me is that sometimes all you have to do to get something you want is to ask nicely 🙂 But you also have to ask their right person and that can be a trick.

Maybe try to negotiate with Eighting then, perhaps it’s possible to get them to release it in some form, preferably as Public Domain.I wonder if it helps if everyone writes to them:

What to potential awesome discovery! Maybe our resident Japanese translator Ben Stevens can take a crack at this translation and perhaps communicating with this person if they don’t speak English? 😁

Very cool discovery! I did a bit of research on the title and it seems the Japanese community has known about this game for some years and even got to see a 58-second video of it in action in 2013, uploaded by the same person who just tweeted the document photo! Unfortunately, the video was quickly deleted on the same day. The description is still there, though, and it is juicy! Apparently, there was a sample ROM produced and the uploader has it in her possession. I am trying to get in touch.Link: http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm21014915
I usually pride myself on my punitude for stuff like this but I’m coming up empty. I’m feeling like there is some way to incorporate the Virtual Girl thing, and that’s something that is uniquely yours as well. You’ve got to feature it prominently in your intro!
Virtual Girl’s Virtual Boy Reviews
Maybe? I guess that’s not really your handle or anything though.
Wow, so is this a 100% donor free, fully functioning cart you are proposing, or did I forget a part that would still be from donors? Either way, if seems like the VB Grail is getting closer.
Yea, I play my system when I can, but these days I have the most time to play games when I’m on travel, so emulation is the way to go. Despite Nintendo’s marketing the VB as a portable system, it doesn’t travel so well. 🙂
My VB emulator of choice is Mednafen because it also emulates the 3D effect by converting the images to anaglyph images (so one can use old school 3D glasses) and works quite well, imo. Anyway, it creates “.sav” files for games with save support. Not sure how these compare to other emulators since I always use Mednafen for VB. I find this project you are working on very interesting though!
Power Glove?!? How would that work? I actually have one (on display, of course 🙂 ) but I don’t see how I could use it to interface with my PC in a useful way. Now I’m curious though.

If anyone is also interested in a Nintendo Power Glove version, I’ll have those in about 2-3 weeks as well. Housing already designed.
Looks awesome! Another professional grade product from Kevin. Thanks for doing these for us. So glad I got in on these!
I did this with mine years ago. You can transplant it. As I recall, you have to sand the OEM shell a little bit to get it to close flush due to the battery on the Flashboy+ board. I ordered a box and label and Ben was the guy who hooked me up back then.

Is it possible to order the Flashboy Plus cart decal only? I live in the USA. I ordered one with the Flashboy dremmeled into the cart but I like the OEM gray cart look better and was wanting to replace it with a regular cart case and then put the decal on it. (I assume you can take the 3d printed cart apart and change the shell?)
Wait a sec. I knew that if you flashed a game that supported saves, then you flashed a game that didn’t, then flashed the original game that the save would still be there, but you are saying it holds a save for multiple games concurrently? How did I not notice this? I thought it only held one save at a time and would overwrite the save memory when a different game supporting saves was flashed and played. So is the multiple saves thing true of a versions of the Flashboy+?
Sceptre_JLRB wrote:
As far as I have experimented, the FlashBoy+ maintains save files from whichever games you have previously saved, whenever those offer this possibility. These saves are not lost at all no matter which new games you will flash to the device in the future. It stores them in a reserved memory compartment, so that you can have save files for every VB game on your FlashBoy+.Currently, it seems not possible to transfer these save files from the FashBoy+ to any other media, but an application to do so or just to manage save files would be welcomed.
