I was messing around with Red Alarm a bit, and it turns out the game IS actually running, it just doesn’t draw anything to the console before reaching the title screen. If you press A a couple of times in the dark, and F5 in and out of the debugger, you can see the framebuffers gets updated with all the precaution graphics, but not the console itself. Of course the CPU window also highlight alot of exceptions all the time…
It’s actually kind of playable after that 🙂
Question: Does Red Alarm put graphics data in any of the other tabs besides the framebuffers’ tab?
Honestly, the campaign has become over a half-year old, and still… no word?? What a shame… Is he still doing lots of more changes and fixes? Someone backed for the tracker perk, but did he/she even get an early-access copy??
I bet it’s time to borrow an accurate VSU-VUE emulation core and make a FamiTracker mod around that. And also, don’t forget that DefleMask occasionally makes these polls where they decide what system gets added next 😉
Guy Perfect has a modern (and more accurate) version of the Sacred Tech Scroll that’s still really useful for providing basic info on how to develop for the Virtual Boy’s hardware: http://perfectkiosk.net/stsvb1.html
However, this doesn’t provide any documentation on how to use the various homebrew dev tools that are out there; it’s just providing hardware-related stuff (CPU / VIP / VSU / communication port / game pad / timer / wait controller).
M.K., the guy that created the GameBoy emulator for Virtual Boy, is working on a VB music tracker and a game.
I’m more excited for his tracker. His plan of releasing it last week in March has died, most likely because of more additional bugs he needs to fix before it’s ready to release.
Honestly, he hasn’t released the tracker since the last 6 days. Now that the originally-anticipated March 24th~30th week is coming to an end, the chance of it releasing is going to be more and more unlikely.
Maybe M.K. is still occupied with his personal life, or still needs to fix some bugs before releasing it.
Nope, the issue didn’t fix. Your server crashed/went offline again.
The server could have malware installed that caused it to crash at 3:00 in the morning. I definitely know that there are films and creepypastas related to 3 AM, so I assume the malware would be related to that too.
It’s recommended to run a virus scan on the server’s Operating System (OS), to be able to remove the unwanted malware, etc.
The reason for the malware installation could be because of software and files you may have been downloading, or that another DNS server drive-by-downloaded it using an open UPnP connection.
I know it’s going to be exciting as soon as this tracker comes out. Hopefully, but maybe, the songs he played in this video will be released as demo songs that come included with the tracker.
For now until then, I’ll just stick to DefleMask if I want to make some VB-style tunes using the PC Engine mode. Although the PC Engine/TurboGrafx16 doesn’t have the same soundchip as the VB, they both are comparable.

Maybe I’m missing something, but I did a basic java install from their homepage and then clicked on your latest jar file, selecting any padded or unpadded game and it doesn’t do anything but a black box.
I’m kind of curious about this like if I’m missing some setup or button press that’s needed.
The 2nd example used on this article explains why the column table is so useful.
For instance, the Wario Land game’s intro cutscene actually uses a fade effect on the sides via the column table. Guy Perfect told me about that on Discord when I was still discussing the VIP with him.
