Would definitely buy it.

Looking amazing

Not familiar with that screwdriver — is it a tube with splines on the inside? If you caught my earlier comment, I took an old philip’s screw-driver and filed it flat on the end (think I heated it and removed the temper first); then drilled it out so it fit snug on the screws, then tapped the end three times with a chisel (making six little tabs that grab the screws perfectly); then heated it in a blow-torch to cherry red and quenched it (re-tempered). Works fine, bet there’s enough of your screw head left to work (unless your gamebit is already that shape).

The next move if all else fails, is to drill a hole into the head with a small drill-bit (hardest part will be getting the bit STARTED, centered would be nice), then use an “easy-out”. The screw is after all, metal — and it’s stuck in plastic. The plastic’s alot weaker than the screw…

Thanks for your comments. You’re right, I’ll try to get the philips flat and drill it out. I can barely see inside the deep hole, but I hope the screw head still keeps a couple of marks to grab onto.

Thanks again!

Argh,
Managed to get a gamebit screwdriver that fits perfectly. I’m able to unscrew all of them except one.
It seems this one has been stripped… and by the looks of it, pretty badly (and to make things worse, is one of the deepest screws). Maybe this is one of the reasons this VB was so cheap…

See attached pic!

It kind of looks corroded or something. I’ve spent the whole morning and been unable to unscrew that. The gamebit just doesn’t “stick” (works great with the rest though).

Any ideas? Is such a unreachable place that I don’t know what to do.
Could that be cleaned with anything? I don’t even think it can be cut off…

Any idea is more than welcome.

Thanks in advance

No idea. The one I bought was delivered within a one and a half weeks and it worked perfectly. If you are not sure what to buy I would go for that one.

Thanks, you’re right I’d buy that one since it’s the only one that seem to work 🙂

I bought this on: http://www.ebay.de/itm/4-5mm-Security-Screw-Bit-Lifetime-Warranty-Uscrew-Virtual-Boy-System-/171049124774?pt=US_Video_Gaming_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item27d35283a6 from the same seller.

It worked perfectly fine. Shipping was extremely fast considering the fact it was send from the states to Germany.

Thanks! That’s more like it.
Thanks to that I’ve managed to find also this one, shipping from UK which hsould work, right? http://www.ebay.es/itm/4-5MM-SECURITY-SCREWDRIVER-NINTENDO-GAMECUBE-SNES-N64-MEGADRIVE-/380653675974?pt=UK_VG_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item58a0ba25c6#shpCntId

And this one from Spain… http://retrocables.es/tienda/index.php?id_product=222&controller=product&id_lang=4

Thanks for your help!

i bought my gamebit off ebay and then modified it to fit my virtual boy. HERE are instructions.

you can also modify a screw driver by fileing out a notch at the bottom so that it can grip the security screws on 2 sides.

you should consider replacing the screws after you get them out. any hardware store should sell a #4 X 1/2 PAN PHIL screw. to make the job easier consider someting to magnetize your driver

good luck and welcome to the world of the virtual boy!

Thanks!
Well, I’ve been trying with a few more games and sometimes both screens are on and then start messing with the lines and all, so I guess the problem is the same as reported by other people.
Anyway, thanks for the tip, but I don’t have neither the means nor the knowledge to do that hehe. That sucks, because from what I’ve read here, there’s no “off the shelf” screwdriver that can get to the deep screws of the VB, right? Found this: http://www.newelectronx.com/join-email-list.php?letter_id=68&lettertype=&pageaction=browse but in this very forum it’s said that those don’t work either… Bic pens are too thick… what am I to do?

Thanks again

EDIT: Well, this: loks more feasible to me…

Hello everyone.

I’m Chava from Spain and recently bought a Virtual Boy for the first time.

My problem is that the right screen is not working at all. Left display and sound work great though. I’ve read most of this topic, and I’ll try the oven thing as I don’t have a lot of soldering experience and it seems easy enough.

To what I’ve seen, most people trying this was to fix display problems (dead lines or noise) but mine doesn’t display anything at all… hope this methid might still work for me.

Are there any other known causes (and fix) which might cause one of the screens to not work?

And, my last question here is, do you know any european seller who sells the proper gamebit to open up the VB? I’ve read it has to be longer than usual, right? Or are there any workarounds to this?

Thanks in advance and best wishes,

EDIT: Can anyone confirm this scredriver could help? Is it long enough? (6 cm long it reads)

Hi, I’m interested in the Stand Fix kit as well for a VB I’ve just bought. Hope you still have some around. I’ve sent you a PM.

Thanks in advance and best regards
